Solid form sodium lauryl sulfate (sls) pesticide composition

Abstract

A composition and method of eliminating pests combines water and a solid form of sodium lauryl sulfate to form a pesticide composition effective to cause mortality in pests. The composition is applied to the indoor structure in an area which the pests inhabit. The sodium lauryl sulfate can be in needle form, pellet form or powder form and constitutes between about 1% and about 10% by weight of the pesticide composition. The composition may be applied to an area inhabited by cockroaches, including, but not limited to, in crevices, cracks, corners, wall and floor junctures or other enclosed or partially enclosed areas of a structure.

1 . A method of eliminating crawling pests comprising:
 (a) mixing water and a solid form of sodium lauryl sulfate to form a pesticide composition use solution effective in causing mortality in crawling pests, wherein the sodium lauryl sulfate constitutes between about 1% and about 10% by weight of the pesticide composition use solution; and   (b) applying the pesticide composition use solution to an enclosed or partially enclosed area in a structure inhabited by crawling pests,   wherein the solid form of sodium lauryl sulfate is selected from the group consisting of powder form sodium lauryl sulfate and pellet form sodium lauryl sulfate.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the sodium lauryl sulfate constitutes between about 1% and about 6% by weight of the pesticide composition use solution. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein applying the pesticide composition use solution comprises spraying the pesticide composition. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein applying the pesticide composition use solution comprises allowing the pesticide composition use solution to remain in the structure for at least about one hour. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 5 , wherein applying the pesticide composition use solution comprises allowing the pesticide composition use solution to remain in the structure for at least about twenty-four hours. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the pesticide composition use solution further includes at least one pesticide. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the crawling pests are cockroaches. 
     
     
         8 . A composition for eliminating crawling pests consisting essentially of:
 (a) between 1% and 10% active solid form sodium lauryl sulfate by weight of the composition;   (b) water;   (c) optionally, 0.1% to 5% attractant by weight of the composition;   (d) optionally, 0.5% to 10% humectant by weight of the composition;   (e) optionally, 1% to 10% foaming agent by weight of the composition; and   (f) optionally, a pesticide.   
     
     
         9 . The composition of  claim 8 , wherein the solid form sodium lauryl sulfate is pellet form sodium lauryl sulfate. 
     
     
         10 . The composition of  claim 8 , wherein the solid form sodium lauryl sulfate is needle form sodium lauryl sulfate. 
     
     
         11 . The composition of  claim 8 , wherein the solid form sodium lauryl sulfate is powder form sodium lauryl sulfate. 
     
     
         12 . The composition of  claim 8 , wherein the pesticide is present in an amount of less than 0.5% by weight of the composition. 
     
     
         13 . The composition of  claim 8 , wherein the attractant is selected from the group consisting of food attractants and pheromones. 
     
     
         14 . A method of eliminating crawling pests comprising:
 (a) mixing water, a solid form of sodium lauryl sulfate, and a pesticide to form a pesticide composition use solution effective in causing mortality in crawling pests, wherein the sodium lauryl sulfate constitutes between about 1% and about 10% by weight of the pesticide composition use solution; and   (b) applying the pesticide composition use solution to an enclosed or partially enclosed area in a structure inhabited by crawling pests.   
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the concentrate pesticide composition further comprises at least one of: a pheromone, a food attractant, a humectant and a foaming agent. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the pesticide constitutes less than 0.5% by weight of the pesticide composition use solution. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein applying the pesticide composition use solution comprises allowing the pesticide composition to remain in the structure for at least about one hour. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the solid form sodium lauryl sulfate is powder form sodium lauryl sulfate. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the solid form sodium lauryl sulfate is needle form sodium lauryl sulfate. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 14 , wherein the solid form sodium lauryl sulfate is pellet form sodium lauryl sulfate.
