Abstract

Adapting characteristics of a video stream. A video stream is received, at a video adaptation device, which employs a first reference frame. A determination is made, at a video adaptation device, to splice the video stream to employ a second reference frame in place of the first reference frame. The video stream is spliced, at a video adaptation device, to create a spliced video stream that employs the second reference frame.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method for adapting characteristics of a video stream, the method comprising:
receiving a video stream, at a video adaptation device, which employs a first reference frame; making a determination, at said video adaptation device, to splice said video stream to employ a second reference frame in place of said first reference frame; and splicing said video stream, at said video adaptation device, to create a spliced video stream that employs said second reference frame.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
producing said spliced video stream, at a video adaptation device, to a client device to employ said spliced video stream with said second reference frame, wherein a copy of said second reference frame is stored at said client device.

3 . The method of claim 1 wherein said splicing comprises replacing a compressed slice with a replacement compressed slice.

4 . The method of claim 3 wherein said splicing comprises adjusting a frame number of said replacement compressed slice to match a frame number of said compressed slice.

5 . The method of claim 3 wherein said splicing comprises adjusting said replacement compressed slice to change a position of said second reference frame in a reference frame buffer.

6 . The method of claim 1 wherein said spliced video stream conforms to a video standard.

7 . The method of claim 1 wherein said splicing comprises incorporating compression parameters into said spliced video stream.

8 . The method of claim 1 wherein said splicing comprises encoding a slice of said video stream using said second reference frame.

9 . The method of claim 1 wherein said making said determination is completed upon receiving a command to make said determination.

10 . The method of claim 1 wherein said making said determination comprises receiving an error message regarding said first reference frame.

11 . The method of claim 1 wherein said splicing said video stream comprises retrieving said second reference frame from a buffer associated with said video adaptation device.

12 . A non transitory computer-usable storage medium having instructions embodied therein that when executed cause a computer system to perform a method for adapting characteristics of a video stream, said method comprising:
receiving a video stream which employs a first reference frame; making a determination to splice said video stream to employ a second reference frame in place of said first reference frame; and splicing said video stream to create a spliced video stream that employs said second reference frame.

13 . The non transitory computer-usable storage medium of claim 12 , further comprising:
producing said spliced video stream, at a video adaptation device, to a client device to employ said spliced video stream with said second reference frame, wherein a copy of said second reference frame is stored at said client device.

14 . The non transitory computer-usable storage medium of claim 12 wherein said spliced video streams conforms to a video standard.

15 . The non transitory computer-usable storage medium of claim 12 wherein said splicing comprises incorporating compression parameters into said spliced video stream.

16 . The non transitory computer-usable storage medium of claim 12 wherein said splicing comprises encoding a slice of said video stream using said second reference frame.

17 . The non transitory computer-usable storage medium of claim 12 wherein said making said determination is completed upon receiving a command to make said determination.

18 . The non transitory computer-usable storage medium of claim 12 wherein said making said determination comprises receiving an error message regarding said first reference frame.

19 . The non transitory computer-usable storage medium of claim 12 wherein said splicing said video stream comprises retrieving said second reference frame from a buffer associated with said video adaptation device.

20 . A system for adapting a video stream, said system comprising:
a video adaptation device configured to receive video stream which employs a first reference frame and to make a determination to splice said video stream with a second reference frame in place of said first reference frame; a buffer configured to store said more than one reference frames; and a splicer configured to create a spliced video stream that employs said second reference frame.
