Abstract

Described herein is a cost effective method and system for removal of thiosulfate from a solution in-line with a process system. The method and system include passing the solution in contact with an open-structured substrate impregnated with a Group 16 element, which results in removal of thiosulfate from the solution and conversion of the thiosulfate to at least sulfite.

         10 . A system comprising:
 a treatment material consisting of open structured substrate impregnated with a Group 16 element; and   a solution containing thiosulfate, wherein the treatment material is configured to contact the solution and at least partially convert the thiosulfate to products including sulfite.   
     
     
         11 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein temperature of the solution is at about or less than about 70 degrees Centigrade. 
     
     
         12 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein pH of the solution is at or less than 4.

         14 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the Group 16 element is one of sulfur, selenium or tellurium. 
     
     
         15 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein thesolution is from a sour water system. 
     
     
         16 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the treatment material is packed in a column. 
     
     
         17 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the solution is configured to contact and pass through the treatment material more than once. 
     
     
         18 . The system of  claim 17 , wherein the solution is configured to possess a pH at or less than 4 upon an initial pass through the treatment material, and configured to possess a pH greater than 4 upon all subsequent passes through the treatment material. 
     
     
         19 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the impregnated substrate is in the form of one of particle, pellet or powder. 
     
     
         20 . The system of  claim 10 , wherein the open structured substrate is activated carbon.
