System and Method for Pushing Information from a Host System to a Mobile Data Communication Device
Abstract
An embodiment of a communication system includes an Internet-based network server having a redirector component executing thereon, wherein the network server is connected to a host computer system via a wide area network connection. The redirector component is configured for commencing redirection of user data items from the host computer system to a mobile computer via a wireless network. The mobile computer is configured for receiving user data items redirected from the host computer system for a user, wherein the mobile computer includes another redirector component that is adapted to push at least a portion of a user data item received from the host computer system to another device based on a trigger flag set at the mobile computer.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A communication system, comprising:
an Internet-based network server having a redirector component executing thereon, the network server connected to a host computer system via a wide area network connection and the redirector component configured for commencing redirection of user data items from the host computer system; and a mobile computer configured for receiving user data items redirected from the host computer system for a user, the mobile computer including another redirector component that is adapted to push at least a portion of a user data item received from the host computer system to another device based on a trigger flag set at the mobile computer.
2 . The communication system as recited in claim 1 wherein the user data item received from the host computer system is one of an e-mail message, a calendar item, a meeting notification, an address entry, a journal entry, a personal alert, a stock quote, an Instant Message (IM) notification and a news bulletin.
3 . The communication system as recited in claim 1 wherein the trigger flag is set responsive to detecting an event trigger indicating that a screen saver of the mobile computer has been activated for an amount of time.
4 . The communication system as recited in claim 1 wherein the trigger flag is set responsive to an event trigger indicating that no input key has been depressed at the mobile computer for an amount of time.
5 . The communication system as recited in claim 1 wherein the Internet-based network server includes a secure webpage for interfacing with the redirector component.
6 . The communication system as recited in claim 1 wherein the host computer system is a message server.
7 . The communication system as recited in claim 1 wherein the user data items are acquired by the host computer system using an intelligence agent from a website.
8 . The communication system as recited in claim 7 wherein the user data items are acquired by the host computer system upon initiating a search of a database.
9 . A non-transitory computer-accessible medium having a sequence of program instructions which, when executed by a processor of a mobile computer, effectuate redirection of user data items from the mobile computer to a device, the non-transitory computer-accessible medium comprising:
a code portion for generating a command, responsive to a user's input, to an Internet-based network server having a redirector component executing thereon, the command configured to initiate redirection of user data items from a host computer system to the mobile computer via the Internet-based network server; a code portion for detecting an event trigger at the mobile computer; and a code portion, operable responsive to detecting the event trigger at the mobile computer, for pushing at least a portion of a user data item received from the host computer system to another device from the mobile computer.
10 . The non-transitory computer-accessible medium as recited in claim 9 further comprising a code portion for configuring a redirection event adapted to generate the event trigger.
11 . The non-transitory computer-accessible medium as recited in claim 10 wherein the redirection event is an indication that a screen saver of the mobile computer has been activated for an amount of time.
12 . The non-transitory computer-accessible medium as recited in claim 10 wherein the redirection event is an indication that no input key has been depressed at the mobile computer for an amount of time.
13 . The non-transitory computer-accessible medium as recited in claim 9 further comprising a code portion adapted to generate a command for configuring the redirector component executing on the Internet-based network server.
14 . The non-transitory computer-accessible medium as recited in claim 9 wherein the code portion for pushing at least a portion of a user data item received from the host computer system is configured to push the at least a portion of the user data item to a mobile data communication device.Cited by (0)
