Abstract

Described herein are compounds and methods for treating or preventing a neurologic, otologic, or ophthalmologic disease in a subject. Also described herein are compounds that can be used as therapeutics.

A method for treating a calcium-activated neutral protease (Calpain) associated degenerative neurological disease in a subject, the method comprising administering to the subject an effective amount of cysteyl-leucyl-argininal or a prodrug or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein the prodrug is formed via the cysteyl-leucyl-argininal reacting with one or more alcohols, and wherein the one or more alcohols comprise at least one of methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, pentyl, isopentyl and hexyl.
