Abstract

Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for processing gifts based on a web page context. A system practicing the method receives an indication that a giver has selected a user-selectable object on a web page, the selectable object being associated with a gift the giver desires to give to a recipient. The system presents to the giver a proposed gift based on a context of the web page. Upon giver confirmation of the gift for the recipient, the system establishes a policy such that when the recipient makes a qualifying purchase to buy the gift using a recipient account, wherein the recipient account exists prior to the giver confirmation, a gift amount is applied to the recipient account.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method comprising:
receiving an indication that a giver has selected a user-selectable object on a web page, the selectable object being associated with a gift the giver desires to give to a recipient; presenting to the giver a proposed gift based on a context of the web page; and upon giver confirmation of the gift for the recipient, establishing a policy such that when the recipient makes a qualifying purchase to buy the gift using a recipient account, wherein the recipient account exists prior to the giver confirmation, a gift amount is applied to the recipient account.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the giver is associated with a giver account that existed prior to the giver confirmation, and wherein the recipient account is independent of the giver account.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the proposed gift comprises one of a product category, a family of products, a set of products sharing at least one common attribute, a product line, and a specific product.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising identifying a giver profile prior to the giver confirmation.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the proposed gift is further based on the giver profile.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein receiving a selection of the recipient is part of the giver confirmation.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the context comprises at least one of a current view of the web page, a browsing history, and user interactions with the web page.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
upon the giver navigating away from the web page to a new web page, updating the proposed gift based on a new context of the new web page.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the user-selectable object persists between the web page and the new web page.

10 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising sending a notification that the policy has been established to at least one of the giver and the recipient.

         11 . A system comprising:
a processor; a memory storing instructions for controlling the processor to perform steps comprising:
 receiving an indication that a giver has selected a user-selectable object on a web page, the selectable object being associated with a gift the giver desires to give to a recipient;
presenting to the giver a proposed gift based on a context of the web page; and
upon giver confirmation of the gift for the recipient, establishing a policy such that when the recipient makes a qualifying purchase to buy the gift using a recipient account, wherein the recipient account exists prior to the giver confirmation, a gift amount is applied to the recipient account.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the giver is associated with a giver account that existed prior to the giver indication, and wherein the recipient account is independent of the giver account.

13 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the proposed gift comprises one of a product category, a family of products, a set of products sharing at least one common attribute, a product line, and a specific product.

14 . The system of claim 11 , the instructions further controlling the processor to perform steps comprising:
identifying a giver profile prior to the giver confirmation.

15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the proposed gift is further based on the giver profile.

16 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions which, when executed by a computing device, cause the computing device to perform steps comprising:
receiving an indication that a giver has selected a user-selectable object on a web page, the selectable object being associated with a gift the giver desires to give to a recipient; presenting to the giver a proposed gift based on a context of the web page; and upon giver confirmation of the gift for the recipient, establishing a policy such that when the recipient makes a qualifying purchase to buy the gift using a recipient account, wherein the recipient account exists prior to the giver confirmation, a gift amount is applied to the recipient account.

17 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the context comprises at least one of a current view of the web page, a browsing history, and user interactions with the web page.

         18 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , further comprising:
upon the giver navigating away from the web page to a new web page, updating the proposed gift based on a new context of the new web page.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 18 , wherein the user-selectable object persists between the web page and the new web page.

20 . The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 16 , the instructions further comprising receiving from the giver a selection of the recipient.
