Abstract
Devices and methods for treatment of a patient's vasculature with some embodiments configured for delivery with a microcatheter for treatment of the cerebral vasculature of a patient. Some embodiments include thin permeable membranes configured to occlude blood flow therethrough.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A device for treatment of a patient's vasculature, comprising:
an expandable wire body support structure, including:
a low profile radially constrained state with a first end, a second end, an elongated tubular configuration having a longitudinal axis, elongate flexible wires forming a plurality of openings between wires, and a first transverse dimension suitable for delivery from a microcatheter configured for navigation in cerebral vasculature, and
an expanded relaxed state with a substantially spherical or globular configuration having a second transverse dimension substantially greater than the first transverse dimension of the tubular configuration of the radially constrained state; and
a permeable layer disposed over the expandable wire body support structure which is configured to cover an aneurysm opening and having a portion with low or no porosity.
2 . The device of claim 1 wherein the permeable layer comprises a braided wire occlusive mesh.
3 . The device of claim 1 wherein a total volume of the permeable layer is less than about 5 mm 3 .
4 . The device of claim 3 wherein the total volume of the permeable layer is between 0.5 mm 3 and 4 mm 3 .
5 . The device of claim 1 wherein the permeable layer comprises wires having a thickness of less than about 0.20 mm.
6 . The device of claim 5 wherein the permeable layer comprises wires having a thickness of about 0.01 mm to about 0.20 mm.
7 . The device of claim 6 wherein the permeable layer comprises wires having a thickness of about 0.01 mm to about 0.10 mm.
8 . The device of claim 1 wherein at least one of the support structure or permeable layer of the device comprises an open distal end.
9 . An aneurysm embolization device comprising:
a wire layer forming a first wire structural layer having a substantially hollow spherical or bulbous configuration; and a braided mesh layer attached to at least the proximal portion of the outer surface of said structural support member; and wherein said device is adapted to be compressed for delivery through a catheter and to open upon deployment to substantially fill an aneurysm such that the braided mesh layer and wire structural layer cover a neck of an aneurysm being treated.
10 . The device of claim 9 wherein the braided mesh layer comprises a braided wire occlusive mesh.
11 . The device of claim 9 wherein a total volume of the braided mesh layer is less than about 5 mm 3 .
12 . The device of claim 11 wherein the total volume of the braided mesh layer is between 0.5 mm 3 and 4 mm 3 .
13 . The device of claim 9 wherein the braided mesh layer comprises wires having a thickness of less than about 0.20 mm.
14 . The device of claim 9 wherein the braided mesh layer comprises wires having a thickness of about 0.01 mm to about 0.10 mm.
15 . The device of claim 9 wherein at least one layer of the device comprises an open distal end.
16 . A device for treatment of a patient's vasculature, comprising:
a support layer including:
a low profile radially constrained state with an elongated tubular configuration that includes a first end, a second end, a longitudinal axis and elongate flexible wires disposed substantially parallel to each other with first ends thereof secured to a first ring and second ends thereof secured to a second ring with the first and second rings being disposed substantially concentric to the longitudinal axis, and a middle portion of the expandable body having a first transverse dimension with a low profile suitable for delivery from a microcatheter, and
an expanded relaxed state having an axially shortened configuration relative to the constrained state such that the middle portion has a second transverse dimension substantially greater than the first transverse dimension and each wire is configured to flex radially with respect to the longitudinal axis of the expandable body; and
a braided mesh layer disposed on the support structure when in the expanded relaxed state.
17 . The device of claim 16 wherein the braided mesh layer comprises a braided wire occlusive mesh.
18 . The device of claim 16 wherein a total volume of the braided mesh layer is less than about 5 mm 3 .
19 . The device of claim 18 wherein the total volume of the braided mesh layer is between 0.5 mm 3 and 4 mm 3 .
20 . The device of claim 16 wherein the braided mesh layer comprises wires having a thickness of less than about 0.20 mm.
21 . The device of claim 20 wherein the braided mesh layer comprises wires having a thickness of about 0.01 mm to about 0.20 mm.
22 . The device of claim 21 wherein the braided mesh layer comprises wires having a thickness of about 0.01 mm to about 0.10 mm.
23 . The device of claim 16 wherein at least one of the support layer or braided mesh layer of the device comprises an open distal end.
24 . An aneurysm embolization device comprising:
a first layer comprising a plurality of wires; and a second layer comprising a braided mesh, the second layer being disposed along at least a portion of the first layer; and wherein said device is adapted to be compressed for delivery through a catheter and to open, upon deployment, to substantially fill an aneurysm such that the second layer substantially covers an opening of the aneurysm.
25 . The device of claim 24 wherein the second braided mesh layer comprises a braided wire occlusive mesh.
26 . The device of claim 24 wherein a total volume of the second layer is less than about 5 mm 3 .
27 . The device of claim 26 wherein the total volume of the second layer is between 0.5 mm 3 and 4 mm 3 .
