Abstract

An automated banking machine operates to cause financial transfers responsive to data read from data bearing records. The automated banking machine includes a card reader operative to read card data from user cards corresponding to financial accounts. The automated banking machine includes a display and a printer to produce records of financial transactions carried out with the machine. The automated banking machine is operative to carry out financial transfers using resources of the ATM correlated to application instructions responsive to configuration data.

1 . Apparatus comprising:
 an automated banking machine that operates responsive at least in part to data read from data bearing records to cause financial transfers, wherein the automated banking machine includes a plurality of resources including a plurality of hardware devices including:
 a card reader operative to read card data from user cards, wherein the card data corresponds to financial accounts; 
 a keypad, and 
 a cash dispenser; 
   at least one computer processor in operative communication with the card reader, the keypad, and the cash dispenser, wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to cause:
 a computer determination to be made that card data read from a user card corresponds to a financial account concerning which financial transfers are authorized to be conducted through machine operation; and 
 a financial transfer at least one of to and from the financial account responsive at least in part to the determination; 
   wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to receive configuration data and at least one application markup language document from at least one application server, wherein the configuration data is associated with at least one of the plurality of resources included in the automated banking machine, wherein the at least one application markup language document includes application instructions,   wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to correlate at least one portion of the application instructions to the at least one resource of the automated banking machine responsive at least in part to the configuration data,   wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to enable the financial transfer to be carried out with the automated banking machine responsive at least in part to the application instructions received from the at least one application server,   wherein the financial transfer includes use of the at least one resource in response at least in part to the correlation of the at least one resource to the at least one portion of the application instructions.   
     
     
         2 . The apparatus according to  claim 1 , further comprising at least one software component operative in the at least one computer processor, wherein the keypad includes a plurality of keys, wherein the at least one resource includes at least a portion of the keys of the keypad, wherein the configuration data includes a plurality of sets of data usable by at least one software component operative in the at least one computer processor to enable sets of keys of the keypad to produce respective input signals receivable through operation of the at least one computer processor responsive at least in part to manual actuation of the respective keys, wherein the at least one portion of the application instructions specifies a keymap, wherein the correlation of the at least one resource includes the specified keymap correlated with one of the sets of keys of the keypad, wherein the keypad is operative to generate at least one input signal responsive at least in part to manual actuation of at least one key of the correlated set of keys of the keypad, wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to cause the financial transfer responsive at least in part to the at least one input signal. 
     
     
         3 . The apparatus according to  claim 2 , wherein the configuration data includes conversion data, wherein the at least one computer processor is operative responsive at least in part to the conversion data to convert the at least one input signal to at least one of corresponding keyboard input signals and mouse input signals. 
     
     
         4 . The apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the configuration data is included in at least one configuration markup language document, wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to receive the configuration markup language document from the at least one application server, wherein the configuration data includes at least one configuration instruction, wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to correlate the at least one portion of the application instructions to the at least one resource of the automated banking machine responsive at least in part to the configuration instruction. 
     
     
         5 . The apparatus according to  claim 4 , wherein the at least one resource correlated to the at least one portion of the application instructions includes at least one of the hardware devices included in the automated banking machine. 
     
     
         6 . The apparatus according to  claim 4 , wherein the automated banking machine includes at least one output device, wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to access a plurality of output documents, wherein the at least one resource correlated to the at least one portion of the application instructions includes at least one of the output documents accessible to the at least one computer processor, wherein to enable the financial transfer to be carried out, the at least one computer processor is operative to cause the at least one output device to produce at least one output responsive at least in part to the at least one output document. 
     
     
         7 . The apparatus according to  claim 6 , wherein the at least one output document comprises an HTML document. 
     
     
         8 . The apparatus according to  claim 6 , wherein the at least one application markup language document includes transaction data, wherein the at least one output document corresponds to a form, wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to cause the form to be populated with the transaction data. 
     
     
         9 . The apparatus according to  claim 6 , wherein the at least one output device includes a printer. 
     
     
         10 . The apparatus according to  claim 6 , wherein the at least one output device includes a display device. 
     
     
         11 . The apparatus according to  claim 6 , wherein the at least one application markup language document includes transaction data, wherein the at least one output document includes format instructions, and wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to cause the at least one output device to include indicia in the at least one output, which indicia is representative of the transaction data formatted responsive at least in part to the format instructions. 
     
     
         12 . The apparatus according to  claim 6 , wherein the at least one portion of the application instructions specifies a state of the automated banking machine, wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to correlate the specified state to the at least one output document responsive at least in part to the configuration data. 
     
     
         13 . The apparatus according to  claim 6 , wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to access the plurality of output documents from a server located remotely from the automated banking machine. 
     
     
         14 . The apparatus according to  claim 13 , wherein the configuration data includes a configuration instruction, wherein the configuration instruction includes at least portions of a network address at which the at least one output document is accessible. 
     
     
         15 . The apparatus according to  claim 4 , further comprising at least one software application operative in the at least one computer processor, wherein the at least one software application includes a plurality of different operational states, wherein the automated banking machine includes at least one output device, wherein the plurality of resources correspond respectively to the plurality of different operational states, wherein each operational state is associated with at least one action capable of being performed by the automated banking machine and at least one presentation capable of being caused by the at least one computer processor to be outputted through the at least one output device, wherein the at least one resource correlated to that at least one portion of the application instructions corresponds to a first state of the plurality of states, wherein to enable the financial transfer to be carried out, the at least one computer processor is operative to cause at least one action to be carried out that is associated with the first state and is operative to cause the at least one output device to output the at least one presentation associated with the first state. 
     
     
         16 . The apparatus according to  claim 15 , wherein the automated banking machine includes at least one input device, wherein the at least one presentation includes indicia which when outputted through the at least one output device visually prompts a user to provide at least one input through the at least one input device, wherein to carry out the at least one action the at least one computer processor is operative to cause a client markup language document that includes data representative of the at least one input, to be sent to the application server. 
     
     
         17 . The apparatus according to  claim 15 , wherein to carry out the at least one action the at least one computer processor is operative to cause the cash dispenser to dispense cash. 
     
     
         18 . The apparatus according to  claim 15 , wherein the at least one presentation includes indicia representative of an advertisement. 
     
     
         19 . The apparatus according to  claim 4 , further comprising at least one software component operative in the at least one computer processor, wherein the at least one software component includes a plurality of callable software functions, wherein the plurality of resources correspond to the plurality of callable software functions, wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to correlate the at least one portion of the application instructions to one of the software functions responsive at least in part to the configuration data, wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to cause the correlated one of the software functions to be called responsive at least in part to the application instructions. 
     
     
         20 . The apparatus according to  claim 19 , wherein the at least one software component includes an automated banking machine dispenser object software component, wherein the correlated one of the software functions corresponds to a function of the automated banking machine dispenser object software component, which when called causes the at least one computer processor to cause the cash dispenser to dispense cash. 
     
     
         21 . Apparatus comprising:
 an automated banking machine that operates responsive at least in part to data read from data bearing records to cause financial transfers, wherein the automated banking machine includes a plurality of resources including a plurality of hardware devices including:
 a card reader operative to read card data from user cards, wherein the card data corresponds to financial accounts; 
 at least one device operative to at least one of accept and dispense cash; 
   at least one computer processor in operative communication with the card reader and the at least one device operative to at least one of accept and dispense cash, wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to cause:
 a computer determination to be made that card data read from a user card corresponds to a financial account concerning which financial transfers are authorized to be conducted through machine operation; and 
 a financial transfer at least one of to and from the financial account responsive at least in part to the determination; 
   wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to receive configuration data and at least one application markup language document from at least one application server, wherein the configuration data is associated with at least one of the plurality of resources included in the automated banking machine, wherein the at least one application markup language document includes application instructions,   wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to correlate at least one portion of the application instructions to the at least one resource of the automated banking machine responsive at least in part to the configuration data,   wherein the at least one computer processor is operative to cause the financial transfer to be carried via use of the at least one correlated resource responsive at least in part to the application instructions received from the at least one application server.
