Abstract

A recording apparatus, a reproduction apparatus, and a file management method are disclosed wherein the operability in management of a large number of files recorded on a recording medium using an index file can be improved significantly further than ever. An index file is formed from a series of entries of extract information from a large number of files. Information indicative of a relationship between the files is set to the index file. The index file is used to manage a large number of files and so forth recorded on a recording medium.

Claims

1 - 43 . (canceled)

44 . An information providing apparatus, comprising:
an index information providing unit that provides an index file for reproducing a video comprising at least one segment, wherein the index file comprises a type of codec of the video, a bit rate of the video, a frame rate of the video, a sampling frequency of audio of the video, a size of the video in vertical and horizontal directions, a duration of the video, a location of the video, and time information of segments in the form of a relationship between segments and a time axis.

45 . The information providing apparatus according to claim 44 , wherein the index file has a hierarchical structure, and the bit rate of the video and the size of the video in vertical and horizontal directions are in a same layer.

46 . The index information providing apparatus according to claim 45 , wherein the index file further comprises information of a reproduction order.

47 . A reproducing apparatus for reproducing a video based on an index file, comprising:
an acquisition unit that acquires the index file; and a reproducing unit reproduces the video based on the index file, wherein the index file comprises a type of codec of the video, a bit rate of the video, a frame rate of the video, a sampling frequency of audio of the video, a size of the video in vertical and horizontal directions, a duration of the video file, a location of the video, and time information of segments of the video in the form of a relationship between segments and a time axis.

48 . The index information providing apparatus according to claim 47 , wherein the index file has a hierarchical structure, and the bit rate of the video and the size of the video in vertical and horizontal directions are in a same layer.

49 . The index information providing apparatus according to claim 48 , wherein the index file further comprises information of a reproduction order.

50 . A video providing and reproducing system, comprising:
an information providing apparatus including an index information providing unit that provides an index file for reproducing a video comprising at least one segment; and a reproducing apparatus including a reproducing unit that reproduces the video based on the index file, wherein the index file comprises a type of codec of the video, a bit rate of the video, a frame rate of the video, a sampling frequency of audio of the video, a size of the video in vertical and horizontal directions, a duration of the video, a location of the video, and time information of segments in the form of a relationship between segments and a time axis.

51 . A video providing and reproducing system according to claim 50 , wherein the index file has a hierarchical structure, and the bit rate of the video and the size of the video in vertical and horizontal directions are in a same layer.

52 . A video providing and reproducing system according to claim 51 , wherein the index file further comprises information of a reproduction order.
