Abstract

Covers for covering an opening in an analyte meter, and meters that include the same are provided.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 30 . (canceled)

         31 . A meter for determining the concentration of an analyte comprising:
 a sensor port;
 a housing with a sensor port opening to the sensor port; and
 a cover for covering the sensor port opening;
 wherein the cover is sized and shaped to close and substantially seal the opening when a sensor is not received in the meter;
 wherein the cover is movable from a first position wherein the cover closes the opening to a second position that provides sensor access to the opening; and
 wherein a portion of the cover extends into the meter through the opening when the cover is in the first position.

         32 . The meter of claim 31 , wherein a portion of the cover does not extend into the meter through the opening when the cover is in the second position.

         33 . The meter of claim 31 , wherein the portion of the cover that extends into the meter when the cover is in the first position is rounded.

         34 . The meter of claim 31 , wherein the cover is biased to be retained in the first position.

         35 . The meter of claim 31 , wherein a spring exerts force on the cover and thereby biases the cover to be retained in the first position.

         36 . The meter of claim 31 , wherein the cover is removably attached to the housing.

         37 . The meter of claim 36 , wherein the cover is attached to the housing by a friction fit, snap fit, hook and loop engagement, adhesive bonding, solvent welding, molded-in snap fit joints or screws.

         38 . The meter of claim 31 wherein the second position is provided by moving a portion of the cover away from the housing while another portion of the cover remains attached to the housing.

         39 . The meter of claim 38 wherein the second position is provided by rotating a portion of the cover away from the housing while another portion of the cover remains attached to the housing.

         40 . The meter of claim 38 wherein the attached portion is fixedly attached to the housing.

         41 . The meter of claim 38 wherein the attached portion is pivotally attached to the housing.

         42 . The meter of claim 39 wherein the attached portion is adjacent to the opening.

         43 . The meter of claim 31 wherein the cover is configured to contact a sensor received in the meter.

         44 . The meter of claim 43 wherein the cover is configured to exert pressure against a sensor received in the meter.

         45 . The meter of claim 31 wherein the cover does not exert substantial pressure against a sensor received in the meter.

         46 . The meter of claim 31 , wherein the cover is comprised of a soft material.

         47 . The meter of claim 31 , wherein the cover is comprised of an elastomeric material.

         48 . The meter of claim 31 , wherein the cover is configured to open upon the insertion of a sensor into the meter.

         49 . The meter of claim 31 , wherein the meter is an electrochemical meter.

         50 . The meter of claim 31 , wherein the meter is an optical meter.
