Abstract

The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising a compound of formula (1), (2) or (3) as defined in the specification for the prevention or treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress, mitochondria dysfunction, hypoxic injury, necrosis and/or ischemic reperfusion injury, and a cosmetic composition comprising an indole compound having an antioxidant effect.

A pharmaceutical composition for the prevention or treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress, comprising a therapeutically-effective amount of a compound of the following formula (1), (2) or (3), pharmaceutically acceptable salt or isomer thereof as an active ingredient; and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier:

         3 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 1 , which suppresses ischemic reperfusion injury. 
     
     
         4 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 1 , which suppresses mitochondrial dysfunction. 
     
     
         5 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 4  for the prevention and treatment of MELAS (mitochondrial myopathy, encephalopathy, lactic acidosis and stroke-like episodes), MERRF syndrome (myoclonus epilepsy with ragged-red fibers) or Kearns-Sayre syndrome. 
     
     
         6 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 1 , which suppresses hypoxic injury. 
     
     
         7 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 1 , which suppresses necrotic cell death. 
     
     
         8 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 7 , which suppresses necrosis of cells secreting HMGB1 (high-motility group box 1). 
     
     
         9 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 8  for the prevention and treatment of a disease mediated by HMGB1. 
     
     
         10 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 8  for the prevention and treatment of inflammation-mediated or inflammation-related diseases. 
     
     
         11 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 8  for the prevention and treatment of sepsis, rheumatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, liver cirrhosis, hemorrhagic disease, various necrotizing diseases, a disease caused by virus or bacteria infection. 
     
     
         12 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 1  for the prevention and treatment of liver disease, heart disease, vascular disease, degenerative brain disease, a disease caused by ischemic reperfusion injury, or an infectious disease by virus or bacteria. 
     
     
         13 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 12  for the prevention and treatment of liver transplantation, hepatic resection, hepatic embolization, hepatic fibrosis, hepatic cirrhosis, alcoholic/non-alcoholic fatty liver and hepatitis caused by virus or drug. 
     
     
         14 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 12  for the prevention and treatment of arrhythmia, cardioplegia or myocardial infarction. 
     
     
         15 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 12  for the prevention and treatment of Lou Gehrig's disease, stroke, dementia, Parkinson's disease or Huntington's disease. 
     
     
         16 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 12  for the prevention and treatment of a disease caused by influenza, HBV, HCV or HIV infection or bacteria infection. 
     
     
         17 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 3 , wherein the ischemic reperfusion injury is caused by mitochondrial dysfunction, hypoxic injury, HMGB1 release or necrotic cell death. 
     
     
         18 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 3  for the prevention and treatment of liver transplantation, hepatic resection, hepatic embolization, hepatic fibrosis, hepatic cirrhosis, alcoholic/non-alcoholic fatty liver, hepatitis caused by virus or drug. 
     
     
         19 . The pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 3  for the prevention and treatment of arrhythmia, cardioplegia or myocardial infarction.
