Abstract

A venipuncture base plate assembly includes an adapter and a patient interface platform. The adapter has a substantially flat retention clip and a platform coupled to the retention clip with two or more posts mounted on it. The patient interface platform includes a base pad having a bottom surface coated with an adhesive substance and a base unit coupled to the base pad. The base unit includes a base plate and a retainer mounted on the base plate that supports the adapter at two or more variable angles relative to the base plate.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A securement device for a medical article comprising:
a retainer having a lower surface and at least two pairs of opposing channels; and an adapter comprising a clip having a pair of legs and a pair of laterally projecting protuberances, the pair of legs being movable towards each other to facilitate adapter being selectively supported by at least the opposing channels at two or more incident angles, wherein the pair of legs move towards each other to facilitate selecting of the incident angle.

2 . The securement device of claim 1 further comprising a base pad, the retainer being support by the base pad.

3 . The securement device of claim 1 , wherein a first pair of opposing channels runs at a different angle relative to the lower surface of the retainer than a second pair of opposing channels.

4 . The securement device of claim 3 , wherein the first pair of opposing channels run at angle of about 0° to about 15° relative to the lower surface of the retainer and the second pair of opposing channels run at an angle of about 15° to about 30° relative to the lower surface of the retainer.

5 . The securement device of claim 1 , wherein the retainer further comprises walls having holes, at least one hole corresponding to each of the opposing channels.

6 . The securement device of claim 5 , wherein each hole is coplanar with its corresponding opposing channel.

7 . A securement device for securing a medical article to a patient's skin at a selected incident angle, comprising:
a retainer; and an adapter being selectively coupled to the retainer by interengaging structure and being configured to support at least a portion of the medical article, the adapter moving between a first position and a second position so as to vary the incident angle between the secured portion of the medical article and the patient's skin, the interengaging structure preventing the adapter from changing the selected incident angle at least when the adapter is in the first and second positions without user intervention.

8 . The securement device of claim 7 further comprising a pad supporting the retainer and having a bottom surface, at least a portion of the bottom surface being coated with an adhesive for releasably attaching the pad to the patient's skin

9 . The securement device of claim 7 , wherein the interengaging structure includes a first channel, a second channel, and a clip, the clip being configured to be secured within a selected one of the first and second channels so as to vary the incident angle between the secured portion of the medical article and the patient's skin.

10 . The securement device of claim 9 , wherein the first channel and second channel have a length and the clip is configured to slide along the lengths of the first and second channels.

11 . The securement device of claim 7 , wherein the retainer comprises the first and second channels and the adapter comprises the clip.

12 . The securement device of claim 7 , wherein the interengaging structure includes a third channel and a fourth channel such that the first and third channels face each other and are coplanar and the second and fourth channels face each other and are coplanar.

13 . The securement device of claim 12 , wherein the clip comprises a pair of legs configured to be secured within the first and third channels when the adapter is in the first position and secured within the second and fourth channels when the adapter is in the second position.

14 . The securement device of claim 13 further comprising at least one receptacle configured to receive at least a portion of one of the pair of legs so as to inhibit movement of the adapter with respect to the retainer at least when the adapter is secured to the retainer.

15 . The securement device of claim 7 , wherein the adapter is separable from the retainer at least when the adapter is being moved between the first position and the second position.

16 . The securement device of claim 7 , wherein the adapter comprises at least one post configured to couple to the secured portion of the medical article.

17 . The securement device of claim 7 , wherein the adapter comprises a platform configured to support the secured portion of the medical article

18 . The securement device of claim 7 , wherein the retainer comprises a base plate, the base plate supporting the retainer.

19 . The securement device of claim 7 , wherein one of the first and second positions defines an incident angle of about 7 degrees.

20 . A securement device for a medical article comprising:
a retainer having a pair of opposing walls, the pair of opposing walls having at least two locking structures; and an adapter having a clip, the clip being separable and slidably engageable with the retainer and having at least two locking structures configured to engage with the at least two locking structures of the retainer, the adapter being selectively supported at two or more incident angles when at least one of the at least two locking structures of the adapter are engaged with at least one of the at least two locking structures of the retainer.

21 . The securement device of claim 20 , wherein the at least two locking structures of the retainer are holes, and wherein the at least two locking structures of the adapter are protuberances.

22 . The securement device of claim 21 , wherein the protuberances move towards each other when being retracted from the holes to facilitate selection of a different incident angle.
