Method and apparatus for displaying information in response to motion picture programming

Abstract

Various apparatuses and techniques for displaying information in response to motion picture programming are herein described. A handheld digital device can comprise a display and a processor. The processor can be configured to receive a watermark via programming. The programming can include an element representing a sale target. The sale target can be an item or service for sale. The watermark can include sale target information about the sale target. The processor can also be configured to identify the sale target via the sale target information in the watermark. The processor can also be configured to present the sale target to a user via the display.

1 . a handheld digital device comprising:
 a display; and   a processor configured to:
 receive a watermark via programming, wherein the programming includes an element representing a sale target, wherein the sale target is an item or service for sale, wherein the watermark includes sale target information about the sale target; 
 identify the sale target via the sale target information in the watermark; and 
 present the sale target to a user via the display. 
   
     
     
         2 . The handheld digital device of  claim 1 , wherein the handheld digital device is a cellular telephone. 
     
     
         3 . The handheld digital device of claim wherein the watermark is in the audio of the programming. 
     
     
         4 . The handheld digital device of  claim 1 , wherein the display includes the processor, and wherein the processor is configured to synchronize an application to present the sale target with the programming to the user. 
     
     
         5 . The handheld digital device of  claim 4 , wherein the application is a web-based application. 
     
     
         6 . The handheld digital device of  claim 4 , wherein the processor is configure to use the sale target information to synchronize the application with the programming. 
     
     
         7 . The handheld digital device of  claim 1 , comprising a storage device, wherein the processor is configured to store the sale target information in the storage device. 
     
     
         8 . The handheld digital device of  claim 1 , comprising a network adapter configured to communicate with a server to accomplish a sales transaction for the sale target. 
     
     
         9 . The handheld digital device of  claim 8 , wherein the processor is configured to:
 receive user input to purchase the sale target; and   communicate with the server to accomplish the sales transaction for the sale target.   
     
     
         10 . A non-transitory computer readable medium including instructions, which when executed by a handheld digital device, cause the handheld digital device to perform operations comprising:
 receiving a watermark via programming, wherein the programming includes an element representing a sale target, wherein the sale target is an item or service for sale, wherein the watermark includes sale target information about the sale target;   identifying the sale target via the sale target information in the watermark; and   presenting the sale target to a user via a display of the handheld digital device.   
     
     
         11 . The computer readable medium of  claim 10 , wherein the handheld digital device is a cellular telephone. 
     
     
         12 . The computer readable medium of  claim 10 , wherein the watermark is in the audio of the programming. 
     
     
         13 . The computer readable medium  10 , wherein presenting the sale target to the user via the display includes synchronizing an application to present the sale target with the programming. 
     
     
         14 . The computer readable medium of  claim 13 , wherein the application is a web-based application. 
     
     
         15 . The computer readable medium of  claim 13 , wherein synchronizing the application with the programming includes using the sale target information. 
     
     
         16 . The computer readable medium of  claim 10 , wherein the operations comprise storing the sale target information in a storage device of the handheld digital device. 
     
     
         17 . The computer readable medium of  claim 10 , wherein the handheld digital device includes a network adapter configured to communicate with a server capable of accomplishing a sales transaction for the sale target. 
     
     
         18 . The computer readable medium of  claim 17 , wherein the operations comprise:
 receiving user input to purchase the sale target; and   communicating with the server to accomplish the sales transaction for the sale target.   
     
     
         19 . A method comprising:
 receiving a watermark via programming, wherein the programming includes an element representing a sale target, wherein the sale target is an item or service for sale, wherein the watermark includes sale target information about the sale target;   identifying the sale target via the sale target information in the watermark; and   presenting the sale target to a user via a display of the handheld digital device.
