Abstract

A hose reel having a frame assembly with a horizontally split frame is provided. That is, the frame assembly includes a handle assembly and a lower frame assembly. Unlike the prior art, however, the lower frame assembly includes two side frame assemblies and a base assembly with side members and cross members. The side frame assemblies are coupled to the base assembly and are structured to rotatably support a basket assembly. The basket assembly may be rotatably coupled to the side frame assemblies and then the side frame assemblies can be coupled to the lower frame assembly. In this configuration, neither the side frame assemblies nor the base assembly are spread during the coupling of the basket assembly to the frame assembly.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A plastic frame assembly for a hose reel, said hose reel having a basket assembly, said basket assembly having a cylindrical barrel with an axis of rotation, said basket assembly structured to be rotatably coupled to said frame assembly and to rotate about said axis, said frame assembly comprising:
 a handle assembly and a lower frame assembly, said handle assembly being rotatably coupled to said lower frame assembly; said lower frame assembly having a first side frame assembly, a second side frame assembly, and a base assembly; and said first side frame assembly and second side frame assembly coupled to the upper surface of said base assembly.

         2 . The frame assembly of claim 1 wherein said base assembly is a unitary body.

         3 . The frame assembly of claim 2 wherein said basket assembly is not directly coupled to said base assembly.

         4 . The frame assembly of claim 2 wherein the basket assembly axis of rotation does not pass through said base assembly.

         5 . The frame assembly of claim 2 wherein said base assembly includes a plurality of elongated members, said members being closed extrusion members.

         6 . The frame assembly of claim 1 wherein:
 said base assembly includes at least two side frame couplings disposed on the upper side of said base assembly, each said side frame coupling structured to be coupled to one of said first or second side frame assemblies;
 said first side frame assembly coupled to one said side frame coupling; and
 said second side frame assembly coupled to the other said side frame coupling.

         7 . The frame assembly of claim 6 wherein:
 said first side frame assembly includes a forward support member and a rear support member;
 said second side frame assembly includes a forward support member and a rear support member;
 said at least two side frame couplings includes two pairs of side frame couplings;
 said first side frame assembly coupled to one said pair of side frame couplings; and
 said second side frame assembly coupled to the other said pair of side frame couplings.

         8 . The frame assembly of claim 7 wherein said basket assembly is not directly coupled to said base assembly.

         9 . The frame assembly of claim 7 wherein the basket assembly axis of rotation does not pass through said base assembly.

         10 . The frame assembly of claim 1 wherein the basket assembly axis of rotation does not pass through said base assembly.

         11 . A hose reel comprising:
 a basket assembly, said basket assembly having a cylindrical barrel with an axis of rotation, said basket assembly structured to be rotatably coupled to a frame assembly and to rotate about said axis; a plastic frame assembly having a handle assembly and a lower frame assembly, said handle assembly being rotatably coupled to said lower frame assembly; said lower frame assembly having a first side frame assembly, a second side frame assembly, and a base assembly; and said first side frame assembly and second side frame assembly coupled to the upper surface of said base assembly.

         12 . The hose reel of claim 11 wherein said base assembly is a unitary body.

         13 . The hose reel of claim 12 wherein said basket assembly is not directly coupled to said base assembly.

         14 . The hose reel of claim 12 wherein the basket assembly axis of rotation does not pass through said base assembly.

         15 . The hose reel of claim 12 wherein said base assembly includes a plurality of elongated members, said members being closed extrusion members.

         16 . The hose reel of claim 11 wherein:
 said base assembly includes at least two side frame couplings disposed on the upper side of said base assembly, each said side frame coupling structured to be coupled to one of said first or second side frame assemblies;
 said first side frame assembly coupled to one said side frame coupling; and
 said second side frame assembly coupled to the other said side frame coupling.
