Abstract
Managing electronic subscriptions includes receiving user input for modifying an electronic subscription of a user to prevent receiving a redundant subscription message for the electronic subscription. Whether a future subscription message is redundant is determined based on at least one of an identifier for the subscription message and content included in the subscription message. Redundant future subscription messages associated with the electronic subscription is excluded from presentation to the user based on the redundancy determination and the user input.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for managing electronic subscriptions, the method comprising:
determining a frequency of requesting, by a user of an electronic subscription client, presentation of one or more subscription messages for an electronic subscription; and excluding, from receipt by the electronic subscription client, a future subscription message associated with the electronic subscription based on the frequency of requesting presentation of one or more subscription messages previously.
2 . The method of claim 1 wherein monitoring interaction with an electronic subscription client by a user includes monitoring interaction with one of an e-mail client, a real simple syndication (RSS)-based client, a media-based client, a photoshare client, and a personalized web page subscription client.
3 . The method of claim 1 wherein monitoring interaction with an electronic subscription client by a user includes determining a time period from last time presentation of an electronic message was requested to the present and comparing the determined time period to a threshold time period.
4 . The method of claim 1 wherein monitoring interaction with the electronic subscription client by a user includes determining a number of the received subscription messages not requested for presentation by a user and comparing the determined number to a threshold.
5 . The method of claim 1 wherein excluding, from receipt by the electronic subscription client, a future subscription message associated with the electronic subscription includes unsubscribing the user from receiving the future subscription message associated with the electronic subscription.
6 . The method of claim 5 wherein unsubscribing the user from receiving the future subscription message includes identifying unsubscribe information in the one or more subscription messages and unsubscribing the user from receiving the future subscription message based on the unsubscribe information.
7 . The method of claim 5 wherein unsubscribing the user from receiving the future subscription message includes determining one of an address, a uniform resource identifier (URI), and a link associated with the electronic subscription and unsubscribing the user from receiving the future subscription message by at least one of accessing a resource and sending a message using the address, the URI, or the link.
8 . The method of claim 5 wherein unsubscribing the user from receiving the future subscription message includes identifying text in the one or more subscription messages indicating information for unsubscribing.
9 . The method of claim 8 wherein identifying text includes identifying at least one of subscribe, mailing list, and unsubscribe.
10 . The method of claim 5 wherein unsubscribing the user from receiving the future subscription message includes determining a URI in an RSS reading list associated with the electronic subscription and removing the URI from the RSS reading list.
11 . The method of claim 1 comprising unsubscribing the user from receiving the future subscription message associated with the electronic subscription in response to receiving user input.
12 . A system for managing electronic subscriptions, the system comprising:
an interaction monitor component configured to determine a frequency of requesting, by a user of an electronic subscription client, presentation of one or more subscription messages for an electronic subscription; and an unsubscribe function component configured to exclude, from receipt by the electronic subscription client, a future subscription message associated with the electronic subscription based on the frequency of requesting presentation of one or more subscription messages previously; wherein at least one of the components include at least one processor configured for implementing the component.
13 . The system of claim 12 wherein the interaction monitor component is configured to monitor interaction with an electronic subscription client by a user by monitoring interaction with one of an e-mail client, a real simple syndication (RSS)-based client, a media-based client, a photoshare client, and a personalized web page subscription client.
14 . The system of claim 12 wherein the interaction monitor component is configured to monitor interaction with an electronic subscription client by a user by determining a time period from last time presentation of an electronic message was requested to the present and comparing the determined time period to a threshold time period.
15 . The system of claim 12 wherein the interaction monitor component is configured to monitor interaction with the electronic subscription client by a user by determining a number of the received subscription messages not requested for presentation by a user and comparing the determined number to a threshold.
16 . The system of claim 12 wherein excluding, from receipt by the electronic subscription client, a future subscription message associated with the electronic subscription by unsubscribing the user from receiving the future subscription message associated with the electronic subscription.
17 . The system of claim 16 wherein the unsubscribe function component is configured to unsubscribe the user from receiving the future subscription message by identifying unsubscribe information in the one or more subscription messages and unsubscribing the user from receiving the future subscription message based on the unsubscribe information.
18 . The system of claim 16 wherein the unsubscribe function component is configured to unsubscribe the user from receiving the future subscription message by determining one of an address, a uniform resource identifier (URI), and a link associated with the electronic subscription and unsubscribing the user from receiving the future subscription message by at least one of accessing a resource and sending a message using the address, the URI, or the link.
19 . The system of claim 16 wherein the unsubscribe function component is configured to unsubscribe the user from receiving the future subscription message by identifying text in the one or more subscription messages indicating information for unsubscribing.
20 . The system of claim 19 wherein identifying text includes identifying at least one of subscribe, mailing list, and unsubscribe.
21 . The system of claim 16 wherein the unsubscribe function component is configured to unsubscribe the user from receiving the future subscription message by determining a URI in an RSS reading list associated with the electronic subscription and removing the URI from the RSS reading list.
22 . The system of claim 12 wherein the unsubscribe function component is configured to unsubscribe the user from receiving the future subscription message associated with the electronic subscription in response to receiving user input.
23 . A computer program product comprising computer executable instructions embodied in a tangible computer readable medium for performing steps comprising:
determining a frequency of requesting, by a user of an electronic subscription client, presentation of one or more subscription messages for an electronic subscription; and excluding, from receipt by the electronic subscription client, a future subscription message associated with the electronic subscription based on the frequency of requesting presentation of one or more subscription messages previously.Cited by (0)
