Abstract
The present invention relates to methods and compositions which employ low concentrations of combinations of zinc salts and antimicrobial agents in coatings for medical articles. The coatings have an anti-irritant effect and inhibit transmission of infectious disease.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 8 . (canceled)
9 . A method of preparing a coated article comprising applying a coating formulation to a surface of the article, wherein the coating formulation comprises:
(i) chlorhexidine gluconate at a concentration of between about 0.05 and 5 weight percent; (ii) panthenol at a concentration of between about 0.3 and 1 weight percent; (iii) zinc acetate at a concentration of between about 0.1 and 0.5 weight percent; (iv) zinc lactate at a concentration of between about 0.5 and 1.5 percent; (v) a quaternary ammonium compound at a concentration of between about 0.05 and 0.2 weight percent; and (vi) a silicone emulsion at a concentration of between about 1 and 5 weight percent, wherein the formulation does not comprise a water insoluble zinc salt.
10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the coating further comprising between about 0.5 and 2 weight percent farnesol.
11 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the coating further comprising between about 0.5 and 3 weight percent octoxyglycerin.
12 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the coating further comprising between about 0.1 and 0.5 weight percent silicone powder.
13 . A method of preparing a coated article comprising applying a coating formulation to a surface of the article, wherein the coating formulation comprises:
(i) chlorhexidine gluconate at a concentration of between about 2 and 4 weight percent; (ii) panthenol at a concentration of between about 0.3 and 1 weight percent; (iii) zinc acetate at a concentration of between about 0.1 and 0.5 weight percent; (iv) zinc lactate at a concentration of between about 0.5 and 1.5 percent; (v) zinc oxide at a concentration of between about 0.1 and 1.0 weight percent; and (vi) a silicone solution consisting essentially of:
(a) a silicone emulsion at a concentration of between about 1 and 5 weight percent;
(b) an octanediol compound at a concentration of between about 1 and 4 weight percent;
(c) farnesol at a concentration of between about 0.5 and 2 weigh percent; and
(d) octoxyglycerin at a concentration of between about 0.5 and 3 weight percent, wherein the formulation does not comprise a quaternary ammonium compound.
14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the coating further comprising between about 0.1 and 0.5 weight percent silicone powder.
15 . A method of preparing a coated article comprising applying a coating formulation to a surface of the article, wherein the coating formulation comprises:
(i) chlorhexidine gluconate at a concentration of between about 2 and 4 weight percent; (ii) panthenol at a concentration of between about 0.3 and 1 weight percent; (iii) zinc acetate at a concentration of between about 0.1 and 0.5 weight percent; (iv) zinc lactate at a concentration of between about 0.5 and 1.5 percent; (v) a quaternary ammonium compound at a concentration of between about 0.05 and 0.2 weight percent; and (vi) a silicone solution consisting essentially of:
(a) a silicone emulsion at a concentration of between about 1 and 5 weight percent;
(b) between about 0.5 and 2 weight percent farnesol;
(c) between about 0.5 and 3 weight percent octoxyglycerin; and
(d) an octanediol compound at a concentration of between about 1 and 4 weight percent.
16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the coating further comprising between about 0.1 and 0.5 weight percent silicone powder.
17 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the article is selected from the group consisting of a glove, rubber finger, condom, diaphragm, clothing, eye protection device, medical drape, bandage, wound dressing, surgical mask, device applied to stoma and footwear.
18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the article is a glove.
19 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the article is selected from the group consisting of a glove, rubber finger, condom, diaphragm, clothing, eye protection device, medical drape, bandage, wound dressing, surgical mask, device applied to stoma and footwear.
20 . The method of claim 19 , wherein the article is a glove.
21 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the article is selected from the group consisting of a glove, rubber finger, condom, diaphragm, clothing, eye protection device, medical drape, bandage, wound dressing, surgical mask, device applied to stoma and footwear.
22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the article is a glove.Cited by (0)
