Abstract
The invention is directed to a magnetic write head configured for writing to a magnetic medium, such as, a magnetic tape along a longitudinal direction x. The magnetic write head includes a trailing pole with a first face of height r 1 ; a leading pole with a second face, each of the first face and second face being arranged to face the magnetic medium in operation; and a magnetic gap of height g between the trailing pole and the leading pole. The height r 1 and the height g are such that r 1 ≦1.0 g and each of the height g and the height r 1 is measured parallel to said longitudinal direction x.
Claims

2 . The magnetic write head of claim 1 , wherein said height r 1 and said height g are such that 0.1 g<r 1 <1.0 g.
3 . The magnetic write head of claim 1 , wherein the height r 1 is less than 300 nm.
4 . The magnetic write head of claim 1 , wherein the height r 1 is less than 150 nm.
5 . The magnetic write head of claim 1 , wherein said height r 1 is between 15 nm and 150 nm.
6 . The magnetic write head of claim 1 , wherein the trailing pole comprises:
a recessed portion having a third face arranged to face the magnetic medium, in operation; and a non-recessed portion exhibiting said first face of height r 1 , wherein the third face is recessed with respect to the first face, opposite to the magnetic medium, in a direction z perpendicular to the magnetic medium.
7 . The magnetic write head of claim 6 , wherein
the third face is recessed a minimal distance t 2 with respect to said first face, in the direction z perpendicular to the magnetic medium; and a surface of the third face is substantially larger than a surface of said first face.
8 . The magnetic write head of claim 6 , wherein the trailing pole comprises a high-permeability magnetic material, the magnetic write head comprising a low-permeability material filling in a space delimited in part by the recessed portion and the non-recessed portion, such that the low-permeability material exhibits a fourth face facing the magnetic medium, in operation, said fourth face being flush with the first face and the second face.
9 . The magnetic write head of claim 8 , wherein said minimal distance t 2 satisfies 0.25 r 1 <t 2 <10.00 r 1 .
10 . The magnetic write head of claim 9 , wherein said minimal distance t 2 satisfies 0.50 r 1 <t 2 <2.00 r 1 .
11 . The magnetic write head of claim 7 , wherein the third face is substantially not parallel to the first face.
12 . The magnetic write head of claim 1 , wherein the leading pole further comprises a notch arranged to reduce a surface of the second face.
13 . The magnetic write head of claim 12 , wherein the leading pole comprises two notches, each of said notches arranged to reduce the surface of the second face and exhibiting mirror symmetry.
14 . A magnetic write head configured for writing to a magnetic medium along a locally longitudinal direction x of the magnetic medium, the magnetic write head comprising:
a trailing pole with a first face of height r 1 ; a leading pole with a second face, wherein each of the first face and the second face is arranged to face the magnetic medium, in operation; and a magnetic gap of height g between the trailing pole and the leading pole, wherein said height r 1 , measured parallel to said longitudinal direction x, is less than 300 nm.
15 . The magnetic write head of claim 13 , wherein said height r 1 , measured parallel to said longitudinal direction x, is less than 150 nm.
16 . The magnetic write head of claim 13 , wherein said height r 1 , measured parallel to said longitudinal direction x, is less between 20 nm and 150 nm.
17 . An apparatus comprising a magnetic write head configured for writing to a magnetic medium along a longitudinal direction x, the magnetic write head comprising:
a trailing pole with a first face of height r 1 ; a leading pole with a second face, wherein each of the first face and the second face is arranged to face the magnetic medium, in operation; and a magnetic gap of height g between the trailing pole and the leading pole, wherein the height r 1 and the height g are such that r 1 ≦1.0 g, and wherein each of the height g and the height r 1 are measured parallel to said longitudinal direction x.
18 . A method of writing a magnetic medium, comprising:
providing a magnetic medium; providing an apparatus comprising a magnetic write head configured for writing to a magnetic medium along a longitudinal direction x; and writing the magnetic medium via the apparatus; wherein the magnetic write head comprises:
a trailing pole with a first face of height r 1 ;
a leading pole with a second face, wherein each of the first face and the second face is arranged to face the magnetic medium, in operation; and
