Abstract
A table may include a table top with a first plurality of depressions aligned in a plurality of generally aligned rows. The table top may also include a plurality of channels disposed generally parallel to the rows of depressions and each channel may have a width generally equal to a width of the first plurality of depressions. The table top may further include a second plurality of depressions disposed in the channels. The table top may further include a recess sized and configured to receive a structural support member, and a portion of the channels may be disposed on both sides of the recess.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A table top constructed from molded plastic, the table top comprising:
an upper surface; a lower surface; a hollow interior portion disposed between the upper surface and the lower surface; a first plurality of depressions disposed in the lower surface of the table top, at least a majority of the depressions of the first plurality of depressions aligned in a plurality of generally aligned rows, each depression of the first plurality of depressions having generally a same width; a plurality of channels disposed in the lower surface of the table top, the plurality of channels disposed generally parallel to the rows of depressions, each channel of the plurality of channels including a lower surface that is spaced apart from the upper surface of the table top by a distance, each channel having a width generally equal to the width of the depressions in the first plurality of depressions; and a second plurality of depressions disposed in the lower surface of the plurality of channels, each depression of the second plurality of depressions having generally a same width; wherein the upper surface, the lower surface, the hollow interior portion, the first plurality of depressions, the plurality of channels and the second plurality of depressions are integrally formed during a molding process as part of a unitary, one-piece structure.
2 . The table top as in claim 1 , wherein at least a majority of depressions of the first plurality of depressions are disposed in a generally uniform pattern of depressions; and
wherein each depression in the pattern of depressions has generally a same size, shape, configuration and arrangement.
3 . The table top as in claim 2 , wherein at least a majority of depressions of the second plurality of depressions are disposed in the generally uniform pattern.
4 . The table top as in claim 1 , wherein each depression of the second plurality of depressions has generally the same size, shape, configuration and arrangement.
5 . The table top as in claim 1 , wherein at least a majority of the channels of the plurality of channels are aligned with one of the rows of the first plurality of depressions.
6 . The table top as in claim 1 , wherein each depression of the first plurality of depressions is separated by a generally constant distance from an adjacent depression in each row.
7 . The table top as in claim 1 , wherein each channel of the plurality of channels includes three or more depressions from the second plurality of depressions.
8 . The table top as in claim 1 , wherein each depression in each channel is separated by a generally constant distance from an adjacent depression in the channel.
9 . The table top as in claim 1 , further comprising a recess in the lower surface of the table top sized and configured to receive a structural support member; and
wherein a first portion of each channel of the plurality of channels is disposed on a first side of the recess for the structural support member and a second portion of each channel of the plurality of channels is disposed on a second side of the recess for the structural support member.
10 . The table top as in claim 1 , further comprising a recess in the lower surface of the table top for a cross member; and
wherein a portion each channel of the plurality of channels is disposed on opposing sides of the recess for the cross member.
11 . The table top as in claim 1 , wherein a first end of each channel of the plurality of channels is disposed proximate a first end of the table top.
12 . The table top as in claim 11 , wherein the ends of the channels are generally spaced an equal distance from the first end of the table top.
13 . The table top as in claim 1 , wherein the plurality of channels have different lengths.
14 . The table top as in claim 1 , further comprising a recess in the lower surface of the table top for a cross member; and
wherein each channel of the plurality of channels is disposed generally perpendicular to the recess for the cross member.
15 . The table top as in claim 1 , further comprising a recess in the lower surface of the table top for a cross member; and
further comprising a depression disposed at an intersection of each channel of the plurality of channels and the recess for the cross member.
16 . The table top as in claim 1 , wherein at least a majority of the depressions of the first plurality of depressions are disposed in a generally uniform first pattern, at least a majority of the depressions in the first pattern having a generally uniform size, shape, configuration and arrangement;
wherein at least a majority of the depressions of the second plurality of depressions are disposed in a generally uniform second pattern, at least a majority of the depressions in the second pattern having a generally uniform size, shape, configuration and arrangement; and wherein the depressions of the second plurality of depressions are disposed within the first pattern with nominal disruptions to the first pattern.
17 . The table top as in claim 1 , wherein the first plurality of depressions, the plurality of channels and the second plurality of depressions are sized and configured to increase a strength of the table top; and
wherein the first plurality of depressions, the plurality of channels and the second plurality of depressions are sized and configured to provide the table top with generally uniform strength and structural integrity.
18 . The table top as in claim 1 , wherein an end of each of the channels of the plurality of channels is proximate an end of the table top; and
wherein the channels are sized and configured to increase a rigidity of the end of the table top.
19 . The table top as in claim 1 , wherein at least a majority of the depressions of the second plurality of depressions are generally the same as the majority of the depressions of the first plurality of depressions but have a smaller size.
20 . The table top as in claim 1 , further comprising a recess in the lower surface of the table top sized and configured to receive a structural support member;
wherein a first portion of each channel of the plurality of channels is disposed on a first side of the recess for the structural support member and a second portion of each channel of the plurality of channels is disposed on a second side of the recess for the structural support member; wherein at least a majority of the channels of the plurality of channels are aligned with one of the rows of the first plurality of depressions; and wherein a depression is disposed at an intersection of each channel of the plurality of channels and the recess for the structural support member.Cited by (0)
