Abstract

A discrete pouch is disclosed having a closure system transversely secured across an open end thereof. The discrete pouch includes first and second major surfaces joined together by a pair of sides. The discrete pouch also has a closed bottom, an open top, and a closure system secured to the second major surface adjacent to the open top. The discrete pouch is designed to have the open top sealed after it is filled with products and the closure system is thereafter capable of being opened and closed multiple times.

2 . The discrete pouch of claim 1 further comprising a second attachment securing said outer surface of said second leg of said closure system to said inner surface of said first member to completely close said open top.

3 . The discrete pouch of claim 1 wherein said length of said closure system is less than about 98% of said face width.

4 . The discrete pouch of claim 3 wherein said length of said closure system is less than about 95% of said face width.

5 . The discrete pouch of claim 4 wherein said length of said closure system is less than about 90% of said face width.

6 . The discrete pouch of claim 1 wherein said pair of cutouts is separated by a width which is less than said face width.

7 . The discrete pouch of claim 1 wherein said pair of cutouts is separated by a width which is greater than said length of said closure system.

8 . The discrete pouch of claim 7 wherein said pair of cutouts is separated by a width which is at least about 0.1 inches greater than said length of said closure system.

9 . The discrete pouch of claim 1 wherein said closure system has first and second ends and each of said first and second ends is situated inward of said pair of cutouts.

         10 . A discrete pouch comprising:
 a) a first member having an inner surface; b) a second member having an inner surface; c) a pair of sides joining said first and second members together to form a hollow structure with a pair of open ends, and said first member having a face width; d) a seal extending across one of said pair of open ends to form a closed bottom; e) a pair of cutouts each formed in said first and second members and in said pair of sides, said pair of cutouts being positioned at locations where said pair of sides intersect said open end; f) a closure system having a length which is less than said face width, said closure system having a track with a first leg and a second leg, each of said first and second legs having an outer surface, said outer surface of said first leg being secured to said inner surface of said second member adjacent to said open end, and said first and second legs being joined together by an opening/closing mechanism; said opening/closing mechanism including a slide member; and g) a first attachment securing said inner surface of said first member to both said inner surface of said second member and to a portion of said outer surface of said second leg of said closure system, said first attachment also securing said inner surfaces of said first and second members, adjacent to said open end, to said pair of sides to form a discrete pouch having an open top whereby product can be inserted therethrough.

11 . The discrete pouch of claim 10 further comprising a second attachment securing said outer surface of said second leg of said closure system to said inner surface of said first member to completely close said open top.
