Abstract

The present invention relates to medium chain peroxycarboxylic acid compositions of neutral or alkaline pH, to methods of making these compositions, and to methods employing these compositions. The methods include methods of cleaning. The compositions include cleaning compositions.

         19 . A composition comprising:
 an acid pH medium chain peroxycarboxylic acid composition;   a source of alkalinity.   
     
     
         20 . The composition of  claim 19 , wherein the source of alkalinity comprises alkali metal hydroxide, alkali metal phosphate, alkali metal carbonate, alkali metal borate, alkali metal silicate, alkali metal phosphonate, amine, or mixture thereof. 
     
     
         21 . The composition of  claim 19 , wherein the acid pH medium chain peroxycarboxylic acid composition comprises a C8 to C10 peroxycarboxylic acid. 
     
     
         22 . The composition of  claim 21 , wherein the C8 to C10 percarboxylic acid is selected from the group consisting of peroxyoctanoic acid, peroxynonanoic acid, peroxyisononanoic acid, peroxydecanoic acid, and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         23 . The composition of  claim 19 , wherein the acid pH medium chain peroxycarboxylic acid composition comprises a C8 to C10 carboxylic acid. 
     
     
         24 . The composition of  claim 23 , wherein the carboxylic acid is selected from the group consisting of octanoic acid, nonanoic acid, isononanoic acid, decanoic acid and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         25 . The composition of  claim 19 , wherein the acid pH medium chain peroxycarboxylic acid composition comprises one or more inorganic oxidizing agents. 
     
     
         26 . The composition of  claim 19 , wherein the acid pH medium chain peroxycarboxylic acid composition comprises a stabilizing agent. 
     
     
         27 . The composition of  claim 19 , wherein the acid pH medium chain peroxycarboxylic acid composition is substantially free of short chain peroxycarboxylic acids, and short chain carboxylic acids. 
     
     
         28 . The composition of  claim 19 , wherein the composition has a neutral or alkaline pH. 
     
     
         29 . The composition of  claim 28 , wherein the neutral or alkaline pH is about 6 to about 14. 
     
     
         30 . The composition of  claim 28 , wherein the neutral or alkaline pH is about 9 to about 12.
