Abstract

A system for creating an interlock feature between two related railcar coupler cores comprises a first half of a corebox defining cavity for forming a first half of a railcar coupler core, a second half of a corebox defining a cavity for forming second half of a railcar coupler core, and a loose piece loose piece including an extension on a first side shaped to fit in the cavities.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A system for creating a recess to receive an interlock feature between two related railcar coupler cores for a knuckle, said system comprising:
a first half of a corebox defining a first cavity for forming a first half of a railcar coupler knuckle core; a second half of a corebox defining a second cavity for forming a second half of a railcar coupler knuckle core; and a loose piece shaped to fit in said cavities, said loose piece including a first extension on a first side to form the recess in the knuckle core for reception of said interlock feature, said first extension being tapered from a location adjacent said loose piece to a distal end of the loose piece; where the loose piece includes second and third extensions rectangular in shape on opposing sides of the loose piece that are adjacent to the first side, the second and third extensions extending perpendicularly to said first extension and extending no more than half as far as the first extension.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said first extension measures at least about 3.0″ high and at least about 0.8″ wide.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein said first extension further comprises a flat face defined adjacent to said first extension and measuring at least about 4.0″ high and at least about 1.3″ wide.

4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein said flat face extends 360° around said first extension.

         5 .- 6 . (canceled)

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein said second extension fits in a recess in said first half of said corebox.

8 . The system of claim 6 , wherein said third extension fits in a recess in said second half of said corebox.
