Abstract

The invention relates to a sterile wound dressing having a backing and a nonabsorbent elastomer wound contact layer, wherein the elastomer matrix is formed by a synthetic three-block elastomer, preferably a copolymer of polystyrene block and polyolefin block (SEPS, SEBS, SEEPS, etc.) or mixtures thereof, wherein the total polymer content is less than 3.2 wt %, in particular 3.0 wt % or less, preferably 2.6 wt % or less, and is plasticized by an apolar oil and/or petroleum jelly.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A sterile wound dressing comprising a backing and a nonabsorbent elastomer wound contact layer, wherein the wound contact layer comprises an elastomer matrix formed by a synthetic three-block elastomer and wherein the total polymer content is less than 3.2 wt % and is plasticized by an apolar oil, petroleum jelly, or mixtures thereof.

2 . The wound dressing of claim 1 wherein the elastomer matrix comprises a copolymer having a polystyrene block and polyolefin block.

3 . The wound dressing according to claim 1 wherein the elastomer matrix comprises a three-block elastomer with a molecular weight of 150,000 to 600,000 dalton and a Brookfield viscosity of 5000 mPas (for a 10% solution at 30° C.).

4 . The wound dressing according to claim 3 wherein the molecular weight of the three-block elastomer is 400,000 to 450,000 dalton.

5 . The wound dressing according to claim 3 wherein the elastomer matrix comprises a high molecular polymer with a molecular weight of 300,000 dalton or less and an ultrahigh molecular polymer with a molecular weight of more than 300,000 dalton.

6 . The wound dressing according to claim 5 wherein the amount of the ultrahigh molecular polymer in the total polymer content is less than 50 wt %.

7 . The wound dressing according to claim 6 wherein the amount of the ultrahigh molecular polymer in the total polymer content is 5 wt % to 20 wt %.

8 . The wound dressing according to claim 1 wherein the elastomer matrix comprises an ionic or nonionic hydrocolloid which is homogeneously dispersed in the matrix.

9 . The wound dressing according to claim 1 wherein the backing comprises a material selected from the group consisting of an open mesh knit, a woven fabric, a nonwoven fabric, and a polyurethane foam.

10 . The wound dressing according to claim 1 wherein the elastomer matrix comprises an active ingredient in a therapeutically effective amount.

11 . The wound dressing according to claim 10 wherein the active ingredient is homogeneously distributed in the elastomer matrix.

12 . The wound dressing according to claim 10 wherein the elastomer matrix does not contain any active ingredient in some areas.

13 . The wound dressing according to claim 10 wherein the active ingredient comprises metals, metal compounds, or mixtures thereof.

14 . The wound dressing according to claim 10 wherein the active ingredient comprises an oligomeric/polymeric biguanide, oligomeric/polymeric guanide, octenidine, or mixtures thereof.

15 . The wound dressing according to claim 1 wherein the elastomer matrix contains a tackifier to increase adhesive strength.
