Apparatus And Methods For Profile Wrapping Laminates

Abstract

Apparatus and methods for applying a coating of adhesive to laminate cover material in a profile wrapping operation. The apparatus can include a slot nozzle, a pressure roller, and a drive roller. The drive roller and pressure roller are movable to first positions in which the drive roller and pressure roller are spaced from the laminate, and second positions in which the drive roller and pressure roller contact the laminate to feed the veneer over the slot nozzle. The apparatus may be used to apply adhesive to raw veneer provided in strip form and to laminates provided in roll form.

1 . A method of applying adhesive from the apparatus of  claim 1  to a strip of veneer, comprising the steps of:
 moving the veneer strip over the slot nozzle; 
 pressing the veneer strip against the pressure applying element; and 
 starting the flow of adhesive through the slot nozzle to dispense adhesive to the veneer strip as it moves over the slot nozzle. 
 
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising the steps of:
 stopping the flow of adhesive though the slot nozzle.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein pressing the veneer strip against the pressure applying element comprises pressing the veneer strip with a pressure roller. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , further comprising the step of:
 moving the pressure roller to engage the veneer strip.   
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 3 , further comprising the step of:
 rotationally actuating the pressure roller to move the veneer strip over the slot nozzle.   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising the step of:
 rotationally actuating a drive roller to move the veneer strip over a slot nozzle.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6 , further comprising the step of:
 moving the drive roller to engage the veneer strip.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , further comprising the step of:
 varying the width of the adhesive dispensed to the veneer strip.
