Abstract

A self-laminating rotating cable marker label is constructed of a transparent film having a first adhesive area, an adhesive-free smooth area, and a second adhesive area. A print-on area forms one side of the transparent film, the print-on area adapted to receive indicia identifying the cable about which the marker label is applied. A perforation extends across the transparent film providing a line of separation of the transparent film. When wrapped around a cable, the second adhesive area overlies the print-on area such that the cable identifying indicia is visible through the transparent second adhesive area. As the transparent film is wrapped around the cable, the first adhesive area adheres to the cable. The remainder of the transparent film is rotated, breaking the perforation, whereby the smooth area of the film in contact with the cable provides smooth rotation of the label around the cable.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A label for identifying an object, the label comprising:
a transparent film comprising a first side and a second side opposite the first side, the first side of the transparent film having a first adhesive section, a second adhesive section spaced apart from the first adhesive section, and an adhesive-free section between the first adhesive section and the second adhesive section, the second side of the transparent film having a print-on area opposite the adhesive-free section; the transparent film further comprising a perforation providing a line of separation between a first portion of the adhesive-free section and a second portion of the adhesive-free section, the second adhesive section having a permanent adhesive for permanently adhering the second adhesive section to the second side of the transparent film opposite the second portion of the adhesive-free section when the label is wrapped around the object, the print-on section opposite the second portion of the adhesive-free section, the perforation spaced apart from a juncture formed by the first adhesive section and the first portion of the adhesive-free section to permit the second portion of the adhesive-free section and the print-on section to rotate about the object when the perforation is separated.

2 . The label of claim 1 , wherein the transparent film includes vinyl.

3 . The label of claim 1 , wherein the transparent film includes polyolefin.

4 . The label of claim 1 , wherein the transparent film includes polyester.

5 . The label of claim 1 , wherein the first adhesive section includes a pressure sensitive adhesive applied to the first side of the transparent film.

6 . The label of claim 5 , wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive is transparent.

7 . The label of claim 1 , wherein the second adhesive section includes a pressure sensitive adhesive applied to the first side of the transparent film.

8 . The label of claim 7 , wherein the pressure sensitive adhesive is transparent.

9 . The label of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive-free section includes a low coefficient of friction coating applied to the first side of the transparent film.

10 . The label of claim 9 , wherein the low coefficient of friction coating is a silicon coating.

11 . The label of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive-free section includes a stiffening component applied to the first side of the transparent film.

12 . The label of claim 11 , wherein the stiffening component is stiffer than the transparent film.

13 . The label of claim 11 , wherein the stiffening component includes a low coefficient of friction coating.

14 . The label of claim 13 , wherein the low coefficient of friction coating is a silicon coating.

15 . The label of claim 1 , wherein a width of the second portion of the adhesive-free section is greater than a width of the first adhesive section such that, when the label is wrapped around the object, lateral edges of the second portion of the adhesive-free area extend beyond respective lateral edges of the first adhesive area to minimize axial movement of the second portion of the adhesive-free section along the object when the perforation is separated.
