Abstract
A method, system and computer program product for pushing contents to client devices is disclosed. The method, system, and computer program product handles group pushes, manages different content priorities, prevents one content push from starving others, and handles different transport mechanisms for different clients.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A system for managing multiple services that pushes contents over a wireless network comprising:
a content receiver unit, implemented by a computing system, for receiving the contents from application service providers, the contents having an associated priority parameter and an associated QoS (Quality-of-Service) parameter, the associated priority parameter indicating priority levels associated with delivering the contents, the associated QoS parameter indicating a quality associated with the delivering the contents, the priority parameter having greater weight in determining the priority levels associated with the delivering of the contents than the QoS parameter; the application service providers specifying a group of the client devices and specifying an order in which the contents are delivered to the group, and prior to the delivering the contents to the group, modifying the priority levels associated with the delivering the contents by adjusting the associated priority parameter; a content dispatcher unit, implemented by the computing system, for enqueuing the contents at a content sender according to the modified priority levels, and activating the content sender to deliver the contents, according to the modified priority levels, to each identified member of the group in the specified order; and the content sender, implemented by the computing system, for aggregating the enqueued contents for the delivery according to the modified priority levels in the specified order and performing the delivery of data of the aggregated contents, according to the modified priority levels, to each identified member of the group over a wireless communication channel.
2 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the content receiver unit offering a service to the application service providers, the service including that after the application service providers deliver the contents to the content receiver unit, the application service providers do not have to further manage the delivering the contents.
3 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the content sender allows a high-priority content to be interleaved.
4 . The system according to claim 3 , wherein the high-priority content that arrives at the content receiver unit after a low-priority content has begun to send does not have to wait until the entire low-priority content is sent.
5 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the content sender comprising:
a queuer unit for checking the modified priority levels associated with the delivering the contents, customer level of the client devices and dequeue policy of the contents; a plurality of queues for supporting diverse priority levels; a dequeuer unit for managing the queues based on a scheduling algorithm that prevents starvation of low-priority queues; and a network transport unit for handling different transport mechanisms for different client devices.
6 . The system according to claim 5 , wherein the content sender further comprising:
a queue policy unit for storing data related to policy, said data comprising one or more of: what is the level of a particular customer and how long a content can stay in a queue before it is dequeued.
7 . The system according to claim 1 , further comprising:
a series buffer unit for keeping contents until all contents in a series arrives.
8 . The method for managing multiple services that pushes contents over a wireless network comprising:
receiving, at a content receiver unit, the contents from application service providers, the contents having an associated priority parameter and an associated QoS (Quality-of-Service) parameter, the associated priority parameter indicating priority levels associated with delivering the contents, the associated QoS parameter indicating a quality associated with the delivering the contents, the priority parameter having greater weight in determining the priority levels associated with the delivering of the contents than the QoS parameter; specifying a group of the client devices and specifying an order in which the contents are delivered to the group, and prior to the delivering the contents to the group, modifying the priority levels associated with the delivering the contents by adjusting the associated priority parameter; enqueuing the contents at a content sender according to the modified priority levels, and activating the content sender to deliver the contents, according to the modified priority levels, to each identified member of the group in the specified order; and aggregating the enqueued contents for the delivery according to the modified priority levels in the specified order and performing the delivery of data of the aggregated contents, according to the modified priority levels, to each identified member of the group over a wireless communication channel, wherein a computing system performs the receiving, the specifying, the enqueuing, and the aggregating.
9 . The method according to claim 8 , further comprising:
offering a service to the application service providers, the service including that after the application service providers deliver the contents to the content receiver unit, the application service providers do not have to further manage the delivering the contents.
10 . The method according to claim 8 , wherein the content sender allows a high-priority content to be interleaved.
11 . The method according to claim 10 , wherein the high-priority content that arrives after a low-priority content has begun to send does not have to wait until the entire low-priority content is sent.
12 . A computer program product for managing multiple services that pushes contents over a wireless network, the computer program product comprising a non-transitory storage medium readable by a processing circuit and storing instructions run by the processing circuit for performing a method, said method steps comprising:
receiving the contents from application service providers, the contents having an associated priority parameter and an associated QoS (Quality-of-Service) parameter, the associated priority parameter indicating priority levels associated with delivering the contents, the associated QoS parameter indicating a quality associated with the delivering the contents, the priority parameter having greater weight in determining the priority levels associated with the delivering of the contents than the QoS parameter; specifying a group of the client devices and specifying an order in which the contents are delivered to the group, and prior to the delivering the contents to the group, modifying the priority levels associated with the delivering the contents by adjusting the associated priority parameter; enqueuing the contents at a content sender according to the modified priority levels, and activating the content sender to deliver the contents, according to the modified priority levels, to each identified member of the group in the specified order; and aggregating the enqueued contents for the delivery according to the modified priority levels in the specified order and performing the delivery of data of the aggregated contents, according to the modified priority levels, to each identified member of the group over a wireless communication channel.
13 . The computer program product according to claim 12 , wherein the method further comprises:
offering a service to the application service providers, the service including that after the application service providers deliver the contents to the content receiver unit, the application service providers do not have to further manage the delivering the contents.
14 . The computer program product according to claim 12 , wherein the content sender allows a high-priority content to be interleaved.
15 . The computer program product according to claim 12 , wherein the high-priority content that arrives after a low-priority content has begun to send does not have to wait until the entire low-priority content is sent.Cited by (0)
