Abstract

An interferometric display comprises a backlight with light extraction features formed from a desiccant material within the display. A light source is positioned at one or more edges or corners of the back glass, and the desiccant based features patterned in or on the back glass remove unwanted moisture and create uniform light extraction from the back glass.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . An apparatus, comprising:
a first glass substrate; a second glass substrate, the second glass substrate acting as an optical waveguide, wherein the first glass substrate and the second glass substrate are sealed together to create a sealed internal environment; a light source configured to provide light to the optical waveguide; and desiccant material disposed upon and/or in the optical waveguide while being exposed to the sealed internal environment and configured to extract light from the optical waveguide.

2 . The apparatus of claim 1 , further including a first display at a first side of the second glass substrate.

3 . The apparatus of claim 2 , further including a second display at a second side of the second glass substrate.

4 . The apparatus as recited in claim 2 , further comprising including a second display disposed on the first glass substrate.

5 . The apparatus of claim 2 , further comprising:
a processor that is configured to communicate with the display, the processor being configured to process image data; and a memory device that is configured to communicate with the processor.

6 . The apparatus as recited in claim 5 , further comprising:
a driver circuit configured to send at least one signal to the display.

7 . The apparatus as recited in claim 6 , further comprising:
a controller configured to send at least a portion of the image data to the driver circuit.

8 . The apparatus as recited in claim 5 , further comprising:
an image source module configured to send the image data to the processor.

9 . The apparatus as recited in claim 8 , wherein the image source module includes at least one of a receiver, transceiver, and transmitter.

10 . The apparatus as recited in claim 5 , further comprising:
an input device configured to receive input data and to communicate the input data to the processor.
