Method, system and apparatus for managing notification profiles

Abstract

According to embodiments described in the specification, a method, system and apparatus for managing notification profiles is provided. The method comprises acquiring, at an image acquisition module of a portable electronic device, an image of a graphical indicator. The graphical indicator comprises a machine readable representation of data identifying one of the plurality of notification profiles. The method further comprises extracting from the image the data identifying one of a plurality of notification profiles maintained in a memory of the portable electronic device. The method further comprises selecting the one of the plurality of notification profiles corresponding to the extracted identifying data as an active notification profile.

1 . A method in an electronic device having a processor interconnected with a camera, a display, an input device, and a memory storing a plurality of notification profiles, comprising:
 receiving an image of a graphical indicator at the processor via the camera, the graphical indicator comprising an identifier corresponding to one of the notification profiles;   at the processor, extracting the identifier from the image;   presenting, on the display, the extracted identifier;   determining whether input data has been received at the processor via the input device, in response to the presenting; and   at the processor, setting an active one of the notification profiles based on the determining.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the presenting further comprises presenting a first selectable option for activating the corresponding notification profile, and a second selectable option for aborting activation of the corresponding notification profile. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2  wherein the setting comprises activating the corresponding notification profile in response to input data selecting the first option. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 2  wherein the setting comprises aborting activation of the corresponding notification profile in response to input data selecting the second option. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 2  wherein the setting comprises one of activating the corresponding notification profile and aborting activation of the corresponding notification profile when no input data is received. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1  wherein the graphical indicator is a two-dimensional barcode. 
     
     
         7 . An electronic device, comprising:
 a camera;   a display;   an input device;   a memory storing a plurality of notification profiles; and   a processor interconnected with the camera, the display, the input device, and the memory;   the processor configured to receive an image of a graphical indicator via the camera, the graphical indicator comprising an identifier corresponding to one of the notification profiles;   the processor further configured to extract the identifier from the image;   the processor further configured to present the extracted identifier on the display;   the processor further configured to determine whether input data has been received via the input device, in response to the presentation; and   the processor further configured to set an active one of the notification profiles based on the determination.   
     
     
         8 . The electronic device of  claim 7 , the processor configured to present, with the extracted identifier, a first selectable option for activating the corresponding notification profile, and a second selectable option for aborting activation of the corresponding notification profile. 
     
     
         9 . The electronic device of  claim 8 , the processor configured to set an active one of the notification profiles by activating the corresponding notification profile in response to input data selecting the first option. 
     
     
         10 . The electronic device of  claim 8 , the processor configured to set an active one of the notification profiles by aborting activation of the corresponding notification profile in response to input data selecting the second option. 
     
     
         11 . The electronic device of  claim 8 , the processor configured, when no input data is received, to set an active one of the notification profiles by either activating the corresponding notification profile, or aborting activation of the corresponding notification profile. 
     
     
         12 . The electronic device of  claim 7  wherein the graphical indicator is a two-dimensional barcode. 
     
     
         13 . A non-transitory computer readable medium storing computer readable instructions executable by a processor interconnected with a camera, a display, an input device, and a memory storing a plurality of notification profiles, for implementing a method comprising:
 receiving an image of a graphical indicator at the processor via the camera, the graphical indicator comprising an identifier corresponding to one of the notification profiles;   at the processor, extracting the identifier from the image;   presenting, on the display, the extracted identifier;   determining whether input data has been received at the processor via the input device, in response to the presenting; and   at the processor, setting an active one of the notification profiles based on the determining.   
     
     
         14 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of  claim 13  wherein the presenting further comprises presenting a first selectable option for activating the corresponding notification profile, and a second selectable option for aborting activation of the corresponding notification profile. 
     
     
         15 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of  claim 14  wherein the setting comprises activating the corresponding notification profile in response to input data selecting the first option. 
     
     
         16 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of  claim 14  wherein the setting comprises aborting activation of the corresponding notification profile in response to input data selecting the second option. 
     
     
         17 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of  claim 14  wherein the setting comprises one of activating the corresponding notification profile and aborting activation of the corresponding notification profile when no input data is received. 
     
     
         18 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of  claim 1  wherein the graphical indicator is a two-dimensional barcode.
