Abstract
A method for configuring a mobile communication device to perform transactions using a second communication channel that is different from a first communication channel through which the mobile communication device sends voice data. The method includes attaching a secure element to the mobile communication device. The secure element includes a memory storing an application, a processor configured to execute the application stored in the memory; and a wireless transceiver configured to send transaction data associated with the executed application through the second communication channel to a terminal that is remote from the mobile communication device.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method for making transactions between a mobile communication device and a point-of-sale terminal, the method comprising:
maintaining a payment application and payment credentials in a memory included in a secure element, the secure element configured for removable placement within a slot of the mobile communication device, wherein the mobile communication device is configured to use a first communication channel; executing the payment application on a processor of the secure element configured for bi-directional near field communication, wherein execution of the payment application facilitates transfer of payment credentials with the point-of-sale terminal in response to a near field communication trigger by the point-of-sale terminal; and transmitting payment credentials to the point-of-sale terminal by using a wireless transceiver of the secure element capable of bi-directional near field communication, wherein the payment credentials are transmitted through a second communication channel to the point-of-sale terminal, the second communication channel being different from the first communication channel.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the slot is a memory card slot.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising directly transmitting transaction data from the mobile communication device to another mobile communication device.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first communication channel implements a Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication protocol and the second communication channel implements a Near Field Communications (NFC) communication protocol.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first communication channel implements a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) communication protocol and the second communication channel implements a Near Field Communications (NFC) communication protocol.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second communication channel implements a Bluetooth communication protocol.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second communication channel implements a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) communication protocol.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the transaction data includes an identifier that uniquely identifies a user of the mobile communication device.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the execution of the payment application is related to ticketing, content, purchase of a service, or management of payment.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a payment application allows for processing of a ticket transaction and the transaction data comprises a ticket corresponding to the ticket transaction.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a payment application allows for processing of a transaction involving a coupon.
12 . A secure element for making transactions between a mobile communication device and a point-of-sale terminal, the secure element comprising:
memory configured to maintain a payment application and payment credentials, wherein memory is embedded in the secure element, the secure element configured for removable placement within a slot of the mobile communication device configured to use a first communication channel; a processor configured to execute the payment application, the processor configured to use bi-directional near field communication, wherein execution of the payment application facilitates transfer of payment credentials to the point-of-sale terminal in response to a near field communication trigger by the point-of-sale terminal; and a wireless transceiver configured to transmit payment credentials to the point-of-sale terminal, the wireless transceiver capable of bi-directional near field communication, wherein payment credentials are transmitted through a second communication channel to the point-of-sale terminal, wherein the second communication channel is different from the first communication channel through which the mobile communication device communicates data.
13 . The secure element of claim 12 , wherein the slot is a memory card slot.
14 . The secure element of claim 12 , wherein transaction data is transmitted from the mobile communication device to another mobile communication device.
15 . The secure element of claim 12 , wherein the first communication channel implements a Global System for Mobile (GSM) communication protocol and the second communication channel implements a Near Field Communications (NFC) communication protocol.
16 . The secure element of claim 12 , wherein the first communication channel implements a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) communication protocol and the second communication channel implements a Near Field Communications (NFC) communication protocol.
17 . The secure element of claim 12 , wherein the second communication channel implements a Bluetooth communication protocol.
18 . The secure element of claim 12 , wherein the second communication channel implements a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) communication protocol.
19 . The secure element of claim 12 , wherein the transaction data includes an identifier that uniquely identifies a user of the mobile communication device.
20 . The secure element of claim 12 , wherein the execution of the payment application is related to ticketing, content, purchase of a service, or management of payment.Cited by (0)
