Abstract

The present disclosure relates to methods of modulating aquaporin channels. Particularly, the disclosure provides methods of modulating aquaporin channels in a tissue of a mammal by administering relaxin.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
. A method of modulating an aquaporin channel in a mammal, comprising administering relaxin in an amount effective to modify aquaporin expression in a tissue of the mammal.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein aquaporin expression is aquaporin gene expression.

. The method of claim 2 , wherein aquaporin gene expression is up-regulated.

. The method of claim 2 , wherein aquaporin gene expression is down-regulated.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein aquaporin expression is aquaporin protein expression.

. The method of claim 5 , wherein aquaporin protein expression is up-regulated.

. The method of claim 5 , wherein aquaporin protein expression is down-regulated.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the aquaporin channel is selected from the group consisting of aquaporin-0 (AQP0), aquaporin-1 (AQP1), aquaporin-2 (AQP2), aquaporin-3 (AQP3), aquaporin-4 (AQP4), aquaporin-5 (AQP5), aquaporin-6 (AQP6), aquaporin-7 (AQP7), aquaporin-8 (AQP8), aquaporin-9 (AQP9) and aquaporin-10 (AQP10).

. The method of claim 8 , wherein the aquaporin channel is selected from the group consisting of aquaporin-1 (AQP1), aquaporin-2 (AQP2), aquaporin-3 (AQP3), aquaporin-4 (AQP4), and aquaporin-5 (AQP5).

. The method of claim 9 , wherein AQP3 is up-regulated in the cervix.

. The method of claim 9 , wherein AQP5 is down-regulated in the cervix.

. The method of claim 9 , wherein AQP2 is up-regulated in the kidney.

. The method of claim 9 , wherein AQP4 is up-regulated in the kidney.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the tissue is selected from the group consisting of organ tissue, muscle tissue, epithelial tissue and endothelial tissue.

. The method of claim 14 , wherein the organ tissue is selected from the group consisting of brain tissue, kidney tissue, lung tissue, and reproductive tissue.

. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mammal is a human.

. A method of modulating an aquaporin channel in a mammal comprising administering relaxin.

. The method of claim 17 , wherein relaxin modulates aquaporin gene expression.

. The method of claim 17 , wherein relaxin modulates aquaporin protein expression.

. The method of claim 17 , wherein the aquaporin is selected from the group consisting of aquaporin-1 (AQP1), aquaporin-2 (AQP2), aquaporin-3 (AQP3), aquaporin-4 (AQP4), and aquaporin-5 (AQP5).
