Abstract
This invention relates to compounds useful for treating fungal infections, more specifically topical treatment of onychomycosis and/or cutaneous fungal infections. This invention is directed to compounds that are active against fungi and have properties that allow the compound, when placed in contact with a patient, to reach the particular part of the skin, nail, hair, claw or hoof infected by the fungus. In particular the present compounds have physiochemical properties that facilitate penetration of the nail plate.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 .- 192 . (canceled)
193 . A method of treating onychomycosis in a human, comprising administering to the human a therapeutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical formulation comprising:
a) a pharmaceutically acceptable excipient which is alcohol; b) a compound which penetrates the nail plate and travels through the nail plate to a nail bed underlying said nail plate; c) an emollient which is a cyclic polydimethylsiloxane containing from about 3 to about 9 silicon atoms; and having an efficacy coefficient against a Trichophyton species of between about 10 and about 1000; wherein the compound is present in said pharmaceutical formulation in a concentration of from about 0.5% to about 15%; and wherein said pharmaceutical formulation is for ungual administration to a human suffering from onychomycosis mediated at least in part by said Trichophyton species
under conditions sufficient to treat said onychomycosis.
194 . The method of claim 193 , wherein the compound is present in said pharmaceutical formulation in a concentration of from about 1% to about 10%.
195 . The method of claim 193 , wherein the cyclic polydimethylsiloxane is cyclomethicone.
196 . The method of claim 193 , further comprising an emollient which is diisopropyl adipate.
197 . The method of claim 193 , wherein the emollient is present in an amount of from about 10% to about 50%.
198 . The method of claim 193 , wherein said pharmaceutically acceptable excipient is propanol or isopropanol.
199 . The method of claim 193 , wherein said pharmaceutically acceptable excipient is ethanol.
200 . The method of claim 193 , further comprising an antioxidant.
201 . The method of claim 200 , wherein said antioxidant is vitamin E.
202 . The method of claim 193 , wherein administration comprises contacting a dorsal layer of the nail plate of a human nail unit with said pharmaceutical formulation, wherein said compound penetrates the nail plate, travels through the nail plate to a nail bed underlying the nail plate, and contacts said Trichophyton species.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
