Claims

Abstract

A display device includes a substrate having a display portion and a peripheral portion surrounding the display portion, and a plurality of pixels formed in the display portion. The plurality of pixels have a switching element, a pixel electrode connected to the switching element, a counter electrode, and a light emitting material layer arranged between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode, respectively, and the counter electrode is arranged in common for the display portion. A bank layer of organic material is arranged between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode and is formed in the display portion and the peripheral portion, with each pixel being divided by the bank layer in the display portion, and the bank layer having at least one opening in the peripheral portion.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A display device comprising:
 a substrate having a display portion and a peripheral portion surrounding the display portion; and   a plurality of pixels formed in the display portion;   wherein the plurality of pixels have a switching element, a pixel electrode connected to the switching element, a counter electrode, and a light emitting material layer arranged between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode, respectively;   wherein the counter electrode is arranged in common for the display portion;   wherein a bank layer of organic material which is arranged between the pixel electrode and the counter electrode is formed in the display portion and the peripheral portion;   wherein each pixel is divided by the bank layer of organic material in the display portion; and   wherein the bank layer of organic material has at least one opening in the peripheral portion.   
     
     
         2 . The display device according to  claim 1 , wherein the bank layer of organic material has plural openings in the peripheral portion. 
     
     
         3 . The display device according to  claim 1 , wherein a protection film is formed on an upper surface of the counter electrode. 
     
     
         4 . The display device according to  claim 1 , wherein a terminal is formed in the opening.
