Abstract

The present invention provides a positive electrode active material for lithium ion batteries having excellent battery property. The positive electrode active material for lithium ion batteries is represented by composition formula: Li x Ni 1-y M y O 2+α , wherein M is Co as an essential component and at least one species selected from a group consisting of Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, Al, Bi, Sn, Mg, Ca, B and Zr, 0.9≦x≦1.2, 0<y≦0.7, α>0.05, and an average particle size (D50) is 5 μm to 15 μm.

1 . A positive electrode active material for lithium ion batteries, represented by composition formula: Li x Ni 1−y M y O 2+α , wherein
 M is Co as an essential component and at least one species selected from a group consisting of Sc, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Ga, Ge, Al, Bi, Sn, Mg, Ca, B and Zr, 0.9≦x≦1.2, 0<y≦0.7, α>0.05, and   an average particle size (D50) is 5 μm to 15 μm.   
     
     
         2 . The positive electrode active material for lithium ion batteries of  claim 1 , wherein the average particle size (D50) is 7 μm to 13 μm. 
     
     
         3 . The positive electrode active material for lithium ion batteries of  claim 1 , wherein M is at least one species selected from a group consisting of Mn and Co. 
     
     
         4 . The positive electrode active material for lithium ion batteries of  claim 1 ,
 wherein α>0.15.   
     
     
         5 . The positive electrode active material for lithium ion batteries of  claim 4 , wherein α>0.20. 
     
     
         6 . The positive electrode active material for lithium ion batteries of  claim 1 ,
 wherein D90 is 20 μm or less in particle size distribution.   
     
     
         7 . A positive electrode for lithium ion batteries comprising the positive electrode active material for lithium ion batteries of  claim 1 . 
     
     
         8 . A lithium ion battery comprising the positive electrode for lithium ion batteries of  claim 7 .
