Abstract

A system for decoding a video bitstream includes receiving a reference picture set associated with a frame including a set of reference picture identifiers. The reference picture set identifies one or more reference pictures to be used for inter-prediction of the frame based upon its associated least significant bits of a picture order count based upon the reference picture identifiers. The one or more reference pictures is a second or greater previous frame to the frame having the matching reference picture identifier.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
I/we claim:

1 . A method for decoding a video bitstream comprising:
 (a) receiving a frame of said video that includes at least one slice and at least one tile, where each of said at least one slice and said at least one tile are not all aligned with one another, wherein each of said at least one tile is characterized that it is decoded independently of the other said at least one tile including intra-prediction information, motion information; (b) receiving a reference picture set associated with said frame including a set of reference picture identifiers, wherein said reference picture set identifies one or more reference pictures to be used for inter-prediction of said frame based upon its associated least significant bits of a picture order count based upon said reference picture identifiers, wherein said one or more reference pictures is a second or greater previous frame to said frame having said matching reference picture identifier.

2 . The method of claim 1 wherein said reference picture set is associated with one of said at least one slice.

3 . The method of claim 1 wherein said reference picture set is associated with a group of said frames.

4 . The method of claim 1 wherein said reference picture set is associated with at least one frame, and said slice references said at reference picture set.

5 . The method of claim 1 wherein said associated least significant bits is 4 bits.

6 . The method of claim 1 wherein the number of said associated least significant bits is provided in said bitstream.

7 . The method of claim 1 wherein said matching is based upon a first previous frame to said frame having said matching reference picture identifier.

8 . The method of claim 1 wherein said matching is identified based upon duplicate signaling in said bitstream.
