Abstract

Described is a flame-resistant spun yarn having: about 50 to about 95 parts by weight of a sulfonated polyoxadiazole based staple fiber comprising repeat units of Formula (I) and one or both of Formula (II) and (IIa): wherein M is a cation; and about 5 to about 50 parts by weight of a textile staple fiber having limiting oxygen index of 21 or greater and a tenacity of about 4 grams per denier or greater, based on the total amount of the polymeric fiber and the textile fiber in the yarn.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A flame-resistant spun yarn comprising:
 about 50 to about 95 parts by weight of a sulfonated polyoxadiazole based staple fiber comprising repeat units of Formula (I) and one or both of Formula (II) and (IIa):

         wherein M is a cation;

       and about 5 to about 50 parts by weight of either a textile staple fiber having limiting oxygen index of 21 or greater and a tenacity of about 4 grams per denier or greater, based on the total amount of the polymeric fiber and the textile fiber in the yarn, or a high modulus staple fiber having a tensile modulus of 200 grams per denier or greater, based on the total amount of the polymeric fiber and the high modulus fiber in the yarn.

         2 . A protective garment, woven fabric, nonwoven fabric, belt, or filament comprising the flame-resistant spun yarn of claim 1 .

         3 . A flame-resistant spun yarn comprising:
 at least about 25 parts to about 80 parts by weight of a sulfonated polyoxadiazole based staple fiber comprising repeat units of Formula (I) and one or both of Formula (II) and (IIa):

         wherein M is a cation;

       and about 20 to about 75 parts by weight of a modacrylic fiber, based on the total amount of the polymeric fiber and the textile fiber in the yarn.

         4 . A protective garment, woven fabric, nonwoven fabric, belt, or filament comprising the flame-resistant spun yarn of claim 3 .

         5 .- 12 . (canceled)
