Abstract

Techniques are provided for presenting a route in a manner that emphasizes the route and provides context information. For example, a vivid color or vivid colors may be used to display the route, and pastel colors or other desaturated colors may be used for non-route context information. This may result in a map in which the vivid colors of the route stand out over the faded style of the non-route context information to emphasize the route. In this manner, the map may both emphasize the route and provide context information for the route.

         43 . The method of claim 42 , further comprising logging a charge to an account associated with the entity.

         44 . The method of claim 42 , wherein enabling the presentation of the symbol on the map portion comprises positioning the symbol on the map portion at a map location that represents the geographic location of the entity.

         45 . The method of claim 42 , further comprising associating the entity with a point of interest type, wherein the point of interest type relates to the entity's business activity.

         46 . The method of claim 45 , wherein the point of interest type comprises one of: a gas station, a hotel, a fast-food restaurant, a full service restaurant, a place of entertainment, a nightspot, a historical landmark, or a tourist destination.

         47 . The method of claim 42 , wherein the symbol comprises an image that indicates a point of interest type, wherein the point of interest type relates to the entity's business activity.

         48 . The method of claim 42 , wherein the geographic location proximate to the route is within a predefined distance from the route.

         49 . The method of claim 48 , wherein the predefined distance from the route is user-configurable.

         50 . A method, comprising:
 enabling a presentation, to a user, of a route that comprises a map portion; identifying, using at least one processor, an entity having a geographic location proximate to the route, wherein the entity is associated with a business type; identifying the existence of a revenue agreement with the entity; enabling, based on the existence of the revenue agreement with the entity, a presentation of a symbol on the map portion that represents the entity; and charging, for the presentation of the symbol on the map portion, an account associated with the entity.

         51 . The method of claim 50 , further comprising determining an interest in a particular business type.

         52 . The method of claim 51 , further comprising determining if the particular business type matches the business type associated with the entity.

         53 . The method of claim 52 , wherein determining the interest in the particular business type is based on a characteristic of the route.

         54 . The method of claim 52 , wherein determining the interest in the particular business type is based on user input.

         55 . The method of claim 54 , wherein the geographic location proximate to the route is within a predefined distance from the route.

         56 . The method of claim 55 , wherein the predefined distance is user-configurable.

         57 . A system comprising:
 at least one processor; and a non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
 enable a presentation, to a user, of a route that comprises a map portion;
 identify, using at least one processor, an entity having a geographic location proximate to the route;
 identify the existence of a revenue agreement with the entity; and
 enable, based on the existence of the revenue agreement with the entity, a presentation of a symbol on the map portion that represents the entity.

         58 . The system of claim 57 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to charge an account associated with the entity based on presenting the symbol that represents the entity on the map portion.

         59 . The system of claim 58 , wherein enabling the presentation of the symbol on the map portion comprises positioning the symbol on the map portion at a map location that represents the geographic location of the entity.

         60 . The system of claim 59 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to associate the entity with a point of interest type, wherein the point of interest type relates to the entity's business activity.

         61 . The system of claim 60 , wherein the geographic location proximate to the route comprises a predefined distance from the route.
