Deinking compositions and methods of use
Abstract
Provided are surfactant compositions and their use for deinking various substrates, such as waste paper. The compositions comprise: (a) an alkyldiphenyloxide disulfonate compound of formula (I): wherein R 1 at each occurrence is independently C 6 -C 18 alkyl, M + is H + or a monovalent cation, p and q are independently 0 or 1 provided that at least one of p and q is 1; and (b) a nonionic surfactant of formula (II): wherein X and Y are independently ethylene oxide or propylene oxide, m and n are independently integers ranging from 0 to 50, provided that at least one of m and n is not 0, z is an integer ranging from 1 to 50, and R is R A or R A —C(═O)— wherein R A is C 4 -C 22 alkyl or C 4 -C 22 alkenyl.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A composition comprising:
(a) an alkyldiphenyloxide disulfonate compound of formula I:
wherein R 1 at each occurrence is independently C 6 -C 18 alkyl, M + is H + or a monovalent cation, p and q are independently 0 or 1 provided that at least one of p and q is 1; and
(b) a nonionic surfactant of formula II:
wherein X and Y are independently ethylene oxide or propylene oxide, m and n are independently integers ranging from 0 to 50, provided that at least one of m and n is not 0, z is an integer ranging from 1 to 50, and R is R A or R A —C(═O)— wherein R A is C 4 -C 22 alkyl or C 4 -C 22 alkenyl.
2 . A composition according to claim 1 wherein p is 0 and R 1 is C 12 alkyl or C 16 alkyl.
3 . A composition according to claim 1 wherein X is ethylene oxide, Y is propylene oxide, m is 4-30, n is 12-30, and R A is C 6 -C 20 alkyl or C 6 -C 20 alkenyl.
4 . A composition according to claim 1 wherein X is ethylene oxide, m is 6-10, n is 0, R is R A , and R A is C 10 -C 16 alkyl or C 10 -C 16 alkenyl.
5 . A composition according to claim 1 wherein X is propylene oxide, Y is ethylene oxide, m is 1-4, n is 2-10, R is R A , and R A is C 6 -C 18 alkyl or C 6 -C 18 alkenyl.
6 . A composition according to claim 1 that is substantially free of free fatty acids.
7 . A method for deinking a substrate, the method comprising applying to the substrate a composition according to claim 1 .
8 . A method according to claim 7 wherein the substrate is paper, fabric, plastic, or cardboard.
