System and method for providing updatable travel-related information
Abstract
A system and method for providing travel-related information. A calendar application is monitored for travel-related appointments. Travel-related information associated with a location of the travel-related appointment is retrieved in response to identifying the travel-related appointment. The travel-related information including travel time information is automatically updated in response to determining there are changes to the travel-related information. The travel-related information is communicated to a user. The travel-related information is communicated again in response to automatically updating the travel-related information.

1 . A method for providing travel-related information, the method comprising:
monitoring a calendar application for travel-related appointments; retrieving travel-related information associated with a location of the travel-related appointment in response to identifying the travel-related appointment; automatically updating the travel-related information including travel time information in response to determining there are changes to the travel-related information; and communicating the travel-related information to a user, wherein the travel-related information is communicated again in response to automatically updating the travel-related information.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining a user location; and setting a current location of the user to the user location.
3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:
adjusting the travel-related information in response to the user location.
4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the travel-related information is updated from a first specified location to the user location.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the travel-related information is updated utilizing user preferences previously entered by the user.
6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
retrieving the travel-related information at a predetermined time period.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the travel time information includes at least a map, weather, and traffic updated in response to the location.
8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
providing a reminder to the user of the travel-related appointment that is dynamic based on the travel time information determined utilizing the location and the user location.
9 . A server for providing appointment notifications, the server comprising:
a data bus system; a memory coupled to the data bus system, wherein the memory includes computer usable program code; one or more processors coupled to the data bus system, wherein the one or more processors executes the computer usable program code to: monitor a calendar application for travel-related appointments of a user, determine an appointment location and an appointment time associated with a travel-related appointment; determine a user location of the user; determine an estimated travel time for traveling from the user location to the appointment location; update the estimated travel time in response to the user location changing; and notify the user of the travel-related appointment and the estimated travel time in response to a threshold.
10 . The server of claim 9 , wherein the computer usable program code is further executed to determine the user location includes applying a specified user location.
11 . The server of claim 9 , wherein the estimated travel time is updated each time the user location changes.
12 . The server of claim 9 , wherein the threshold includes at least amount of time to travel from the user location to the appointment location.
13 . The server of claim 9 , wherein the computer usable program code is further executed to present at least a map, weather, and traffic updated in response to the location.
14 . A wireless communications device for providing travel-related information, the wireless communications device comprising:
a data bus system; a memory coupled to the data bus system, wherein the memory includes computer usable program code; a processing unit coupled to the data bus system, wherein the processing unit executes the computer usable program code to: monitor a calendar application for travel-related appointments; retrieve travel-related information associated with a location of a travel-related appointment; and communicate the travel-related information to a user, wherein the travel-related information is communicated again in response to automatically updating the travel-related information.
15 . The wireless communications device of claim 14 , wherein the processing unit further executes the computer usable program code to notify the user of any changes associated with the travel-related information.
16 . The wireless communications device of claim 14 , wherein the travel-related information includes an estimated travel time that is updated each time a user location changes.
17 . The wireless communications device of claim 16 , wherein the travel-related information includes at least a map, weather, and traffic updated in response to the user location.
18 . The wireless communications device of claim 14 , wherein the travel-related information is updated at a predetermined time period.
19 . The wireless communications device of claim 14 , wherein the processing unit further executes the computer usable program code to present a notification of an estimated travel time from the user location to the location utilizing a threshold.
