Abstract

A system for single tunnel, double bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction includes implant constructs and instruments. The implant constructs provide a combination of cortical fixation and bone tunnel aperture fixation. The implant constructs separate a graft into distinct bundles. The instruments are used to prepare shaped bone tunnels to receive the implant constructs and graft bundles. Methods for reconstructing the antero-medial and postero-lateral bundles of the anterior cruciate ligament may rely on single femoral and tibial tunnels and a single strand of graft.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A system for preparing a joint for securing a graft in a bone tunnel, the system comprising;
 an instrument comprising: a handle with a first diameter; a shaft with a second diameter smaller than the first diameter, wherein the shaft extends at least partially between a leading end and a trailing end along an axis, wherein the handle extends from the trailing end; a boss extending along the axis from the leading end, wherein the boss comprises a width and a height transverse to the width, wherein the height is less than the width, wherein the width and height are non-parallel to the axis.

         2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the boss comprises a first indentation and a second indentation extending parallel to the axis.

         3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the first indentation and second indentation are on opposite sides of the boss and divide the width of the boss into a plurality of lobes.

         4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the plurality of lobes comprise a first lobe and a second lobe.

         5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the first lobe and the second lobe are the same length.

         6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the boss comprises a central hole.

         7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the shaft comprises a shaft hole extending from the leading end to the trailing end along the axis, wherein the shaft hole is coaxial with the central hole.

         8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein the handle comprises a handle hole extending entirely through the handle along the axis, wherein the handle hole is coaxial with the central hole and the shaft hole, wherein the handle comprises a strike platform.

         9 . A system for preparing a joint for securing a graft in a bone tunnel, the system comprising;
 an instrument comprising: a handle with a first diameter; a shaft with a second diameter smaller than the first diameter, wherein the shaft extends at least partially between a leading end and a trailing end along an axis, wherein the handle extends from the trailing end; a boss extending along the axis from the leading end, wherein the boss comprises a first lobe and a second lobe, wherein one of the first or second lobes comprises a length greater than one of the other of the first or second lobes.

         10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the boss comprises a width and a height, wherein the height is less than the width, wherein the width and height are non-parallel to the axis.

         11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the boss comprises a first indentation and a second indentation extending parallel to the axis.

         12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein the first indentation and second indentation are on opposite sides of the boss and divide the width of the boss into the first and second lobes.

         13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the boss comprises a central hole.

         14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the shaft comprises a shaft hole extending from the leading end to the trailing end along the axis, wherein the shaft hole is coaxial with the central hole.

         15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the handle comprises a handle hole extending entirely through the handle along the axis, wherein the handle hole is coaxial with the central hole and the shaft hole, wherein the handle comprises a strike platform.

         16 . A system for preparing a joint for securing a graft in a bone tunnel, the system comprising;
 an instrument comprising: a handle with a first diameter; a shaft with a second diameter smaller than the first diameter, wherein the shaft extends at least partially between a leading end and a trailing end along an axis, wherein the handle extends from the trailing end; a boss extending along the axis from the leading end, wherein the boss comprises a width and a height, wherein the height is less than the width, wherein the width and height are non-parallel to the axis, wherein the boss comprises a tip extending from the boss, wherein the tip width is less than the boss width.

         17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the boss and the tip comprise a first indentation and a second indentation extending along the length of the boss and the tip and parallel to the axis.

         18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the first indentation and second indentation are on opposite sides of the boss and divide the width of the boss into a first lobe and a second lobe.

         19 . The system of claim 18 , wherein one of the first or second lobes comprises a length greater than one of the other of the first or second lobe.

         20 . The system of claim 18 , wherein the first lobe and the second lobe are the same length.
