Method and System for Tagging Content
Abstract
Systems and methods for tagging digital content are provided. In some embodiments, a method comprises receiving and storing personal data of a first user of an internet-based social network. The personal data of the first user can include one or more digital images or other digital content that the first user is willing to share with other users of the social network. Accordingly, a request from a second user of the internet-based social network can be received to view some of the digital content of the first user. A viewer image can be used to tag the digital content of the first user allowing the owner of the digital content to quick determine the viewers. The viewer image can be a personal profile picture, an image, an icon, an avatar (two-dimensional or three-dimensional), or other on-screen representation that includes a visual indicator of the second user.

1 . A method comprising:
receiving, by a computer system, data of a first user of a social network, wherein the data includes a first digital image associated with the first user; receiving, by the computer system, a request from a second user of the social network to view the first digital image associated with the first user; identifying, by the computer system, a second digital image that is a visual indicator of the second user; modifying, by the computer system, the second digital mage, the modification to the second digital image indicating information about the second user; and transmitting, by the computer system, to a client device for display the first digital image and the modified second digital image.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the display of the modified second digital image indicates that the second user viewed the first digital image.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first digital image and the modified second digital image are displayed to the first user.
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving a request from a third user of the social network to view the first digital image; and transmitting to the client device, for display with the first digital image, a third digital image that is a visual indicator of the third user.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the modified second digital image is displayed over the first digital image or on the perimeter of the first digital image.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second digital image is a profile picture or an avatar image of the second user.
7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising recording in a database a viewing indicator indicating hat the first digital image was viewed by the second user.
8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting for display details of the second user in response to interaction with the modified second digital image.
9 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting for display a personal profile page of the second user in response to interaction with the modified second digital image.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein modifying the second digital image comprises adding a band of color to the second digital image.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein modifying the second digital image comprises modifying a transparency level of the second digital image.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the modification to the second digital image indicates a type of relationship between the first user and the second user.
13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the modification to the second digital image indicates a day on which the second user viewed the first digital image.
14 . A method comprising:
receiving, by a computer system, a request from a requesting user of a social network to track whether a first plurality of connected users of the social network view content provided by the requesting user, the first plurality of connected users selected by the requesting user from a second plurality of connected users of the social network; tracking, by the computer system, which of the first plurality of connected users viewed a content item provided by the requesting user; and responsive to receiving a request for the content item, transmitting for display to the requesting user the content item and an image for each of the first plurality of connected users, the image for a connected indicating whether the connected user viewed the content item.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the image for a connected user is displayed in a first format responsive to the connected user having viewed the content item and displayed in a second format response to the connected user not having viewed the content item.
16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the first format is non-transparent and the second format is transparent.
17 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the image for a connected user is a profile picture or an avatar image of the connected user.
18 . A method comprising:
receiving, by a computer system, a content item provided by a providing user of a social network; tracking, by the computer system, connected users of the social network that viewed the content item; determining, by the computer system, a first number of connected users having a first type of relationship with the providing user that viewed the content item; determining, by the computer system, a second number of connected users having a second type of relationship with the providing user that viewed the content item; and responsive to receiving a request for the content item, transmitting, by the computer system, for display to the providing user, the content item, the first number and the second number.
19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the first type of relationship are family members and the second type of relationship are friends.
