Abstract

Methods and systems for constructing a comprehensive history for an IMD are disclosed. The method includes interrogating an implantable medical device (IMD) with an interrogating external programmer device (EPD), and comparing a unique signature associated with the interrogating EPD to a stored signature, associated with a particular programmer device that most immediately previously programmed the IMD, in memory of the IMD. If the unique signature of the interrogating programmer device is not the same as the stored signature, the method includes recording the stored signature in the interrogating EPD. The method may optionally include replacing the stored signature in the IMD memory with the unique signature of the interrogating EPD if the interrogating EPD programs the IMD. A comprehensive history for the IMD may be constructed by tracing the values in the IMD and the programmer databases.

Claims

What is claimed is:

         1 . A system configured to generate an interaction history of an Implantable Medical Device (IMD), comprising:
 a first External Programmer Device (EPD), wherein the first EPD generates a first interaction data file; a second External Programmer Device (EPD; and a Central Data Collection System (CDCS), wherein the CDCS:
 receives the first interaction data file;
 retains the first interaction data file;
 compiles a comprehensive IMD history based upon at least the first interaction data file; and
 communicates the comprehensive IMD history to the second EPD.

         2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the first interactive data file is generated when the first EPD interacting with the IMD.

         3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the first EPD updates the IMD to indicate that a comprehensive IMD history resides within the CDCS.

         4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the second EPD generates a second interaction data file.

         5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the CDCS receives and retains the second interaction data and compiles an IMD history based upon a compilation of the first interaction data file and the second interaction data file.

         6 . The system of claim 4 further comprising a third External Programmer Device (EPD), wherein the third EPD generates a third interaction data file and the CDCS further:
 receives the third interaction data file;
 retains the third interaction data file;
 integrates the third interaction data file into the comprehensive IMD history; and
 communicates the comprehensive IMD history to the third EPD.

         7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the second EPD adjusts parameters of the IMD based in part upon the comprehensive IMD history.

         8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein an interactive data file comprises data identifying an EPD.

         9 . The system of claim 1 , wherein an interactive data file comprises data identifying the IMD.

         10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein an interactive data file comprises programming parameters.

         11 . The system of claim 1 , wherein an interactive data file comprises patient data.

         12 . A system configured to generate an interaction history of an Implantable Medical Device (IMD), comprising:
 a first External Programmer Device (EPD), wherein the first EPD generates a first interaction data file; a second External Programmer Device (EPD), wherein the second EPD generates a second interaction data file; and a Central Data Collection System (CDCS), wherein the CDCS:
 receives the first interaction data file and the second interaction data file;
 retains the first interaction data file and the second interaction data file;
 compiles a comprehensive IMD history based upon at least the first interaction data file; and
 communicates the comprehensive IMD history to the second EPD.

         13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the first interactive data file is generated when the first EPD interacting with the IMD.

         14 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the first EPD updates the IMD to indicate that a comprehensive IMD history resides within the CDCS.

         15 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the comprehensive IMD history is further based upon a compilation of the first interaction data file and the second interaction data file.

         16 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the second EPD further updates the IMD based in part upon the comprehensive IMD history.

         17 . The system of claim 12 further comprising a third External Programmer Device (EPD), wherein the third EPD generates a third interaction data file and the CDCS further:
 receives the third interaction data file;
 retains the third interaction data file;
 integrates the third interaction data file into the comprehensive IMD history; and
 communicates the comprehensive IMD history to the third EPD.

         18 . The system of claim 12 , wherein an interactive data file comprises data identifying an EPD.

         19 . The system of claim 12 , wherein an interactive data file comprises data identifying the IMD.

         20 . The system of claim 12 , wherein an interactive data file comprises programming parameters.

         21 . The system of claim 12 , wherein an interactive data file comprises patient data.
