Abstract

A flooring product comprises a heterogeneous design layer having multiple regions wherein two regions comprise compositions having different recycle content or renewable content. The thickness of the design layer may be greater than the dimensions of the regions or the regions may extending from the top surface of the layer to the bottom surface of the design layer. The heterogeneous layer may be composed of consolidated particles/chips which may contain a polyester binder system with a renewable component. Additionally, a method for making a heterogeneous layer having a target wt % recycle content or renewable content is also disclosed.

Claims

1 - 30 . (canceled)

31 . A flooring product comprising a heterogeneous layer having multiple regions, wherein two regions comprise compositions having different recycle content or renewable content.

32 . The flooring product of claim 31 , wherein the thickness of the heterogeneous layer is greater than the dimensions of the regions having different recycle content or renewable content.

33 . The flooring product of claim 31 , wherein the flooring product consists essentially of the heterogeneous layer.

34 . The flooring product of claim 31 , wherein the total recycled content or renewable content of the heterogeneous layer is at least 5% by weight.

35 . The flooring product of claim 31 , wherein one of the compositions comprises a Biobased Content of at least 5% by weight.

36 . The flooring product of claim 31 , wherein the weight percent of the recycle content or renewable content of a first region is different than the weight percent of the recycle content or renewable content of a second region.

37 . The flooring product of claim 31 , wherein one of the regions has zero recycle content or renewable content.

38 . The flooring product of claim 31 , wherein the chemical composition of a first region is different than the chemical composition of a second region.

39 . The flooring product of claim 31 , wherein the first region is darker in color than the color of the second region and has a higher recycle content or renewable content than the recycle content or renewable content of the second region.

40 . The flooring product of claim 31 , wherein the regions having different recycle content or renewable content are consolidated chips or particles.

41 . The flooring product of claim 40 , wherein the consolidated chips or particles further comprise a polymer binder, the polymer hinder comprises a high molecular weight polyester resin, and the polyester resin comprises a renewable component.

42 . The flooring product of claim 31 , wherein the two regions have the same recycle content or renewable content but the color is different because the concentration of non-recycled filler or non-renewable filler in the two regions are different.

43 . The flooring product of claim 42 , wherein the non-recycle or non-renewable filler in the two regions is titanium dioxide.

         44 . A VCT comprising the heterogeneous layer of claim 31 .

45 . The flooring product of claim 31 , wherein the recycle content, the renewable content and the color of the first region is different than the recycle content, the renewable content and the color of the second region.

46 . The flooring product of claim 31 , wherein the multiple regions extend from the top surface of the layer to the bottom surface of the layer.

47 . The flooring product of claim 41 , wherein the polymer binder comprises (i) a thermoplastic, crystalline polyester and (ii) an thermoplastic amorphous polyester.

48 . The flooring product of claim 43 , further comprising a filler selected from limestone and fly ash.

         49 . A flooring product comprising:
 a heterogeneous layer comprising:
 a first region, and
 a second region; and
a filler; wherein the first region and second region each comprise a recycled or renewable polymer binder.

50 . The flooring product of claim 49 , wherein the filler is selected from titanium dioxide, limestone, ceramic powder, rubber, fly ash and a combination of two or more thereof.
