Abstract

Methods for screening molecules that modulate the activity of Retinol Binding Protein 4 (RBP4) and their use in treatment of insulin resistance are described. Also described are methods of diagnosing insulin resistance and related conditions by detecting modulation of RBP4 activity.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A method of reducing insulin resistance in a mammal, comprising administering to a mammal a compound that reduces RBP4 activity.

2 . The method of claim 1 wherein the activity of RBP4 is expression of RBP4 mRNA.

3 . The method of claim 1 wherein the activity of RBP4 is binding of RBP4 to cells.

4 . The method of claim 3 wherein the cells are selected from the group consisting of: adipose, liver or muscle.

5 . The method of claim 1 wherein the RBP4 activity is binding of RBP4 to transthyretin.

6 . The method of claim 5 wherein the binding to transthyretin is inhibited or reduced.
