System and method for remote deposit system

Abstract

Described is a method and system for a remote deposit system. The method comprises receiving facsimile data corresponding to facsimile of a plurality of checks, constructing digitized images of the checks as a function of the facsimile data, gathering check data from each of the digitized images, and processing the check data according to a check processing procedure to settle transactions referenced by each of the checks.

         21 . A remote check-deposit system comprising:
 a fax machine where a depositor is located;   a pocketed carrier, comprising at least one pocket, inside the fax machine;   a to-be-deposited check that is inside a pocket of the carrier, wherein a first sheet of transparent material covers a front face of the check and a second sheet of transparent material covers a back face of the check;   a host system remotely located relative to the depositor; wherein the host system comprises a computer that performs a step of categorizing the check as consumer or non-consumer.   
     
     
         22 . The remote check-deposit system of  claim 21 , further comprising a depositor identifier on the carrier, wherein the depositor identifier is automatically processible by optical character recognition (OCR). 
     
     
         23 . The remote check-deposit system of  claim 21 , comprising a first check that is a consumer check inside the pocketed carrier and a second check that is a non-consumer check inside the pocketed carrier.
