Abstract
A computer-implemented method of presenting place-related content on a computing device entails, in response to receiving input identifying a place, obtaining place-related content for the place from a place database that stores place-related data related to each one of a plurality of places and presenting the place-related content from the place database in a consolidated place-specific view. This technology provides a place-centric view that presents a consolidated view of place-related content for a selected place.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 . A method of presenting place-related content on a computing device, the method comprising:
processing, by the computing device, a request for place-related content for a place, the request being received from one of a plurality of applications executing on the computing device; in response to identifying the place requested by the one of the plurality of applications executing on the computing device, obtaining place-related content for the place for provision to one of the plurality of applications of the computing device that has requested the place, the place-related content being stored in a place database, the place-related content having been contributed to the place database by one or more of the plurality of applications on the computing device; and presenting the place-related content obtained on a display of the computing device in a consolidated view.
2 . The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein the place-related content comprises one or more of content currently relevant to a user, content predicted to be relevant to the user within a period of time, content recommended based on a user profile, and content based on a user's social network feed.
3 . The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein presenting the place-related content comprises presenting the content based on a privacy setting.
4 . The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein the place-related content comprises one or more of: an event related to the place, a contact related to the place, a task related to the place, a news related to the place, a weather alert related to the place, a promotion related to the place, and a social media feed related to the place.
5 . The method as claimed in claim 1 further comprising presenting on the display a plurality of actions that may be performed in relation to the place data presented.
6 . The method as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the plurality of actions are selected from the group comprising: displaying a map of the place; displaying route details to the place; initiating a navigation application to navigate to the place; adding the place to a favourites repository; sharing the place data with other devices; and copying the place data.
7 . The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein presenting the content in the consolidated view comprises displaying at least one of a contact and an event related to the place, the method further comprising, in response to receiving user-selection of the contact from the consolidated view, displaying additional information relating to the contact, and in response to receiving user-selection of the event from the consolidated view, displaying additional information relating to the event.
8 . The method as claimed in claim 1 further comprising obtaining additional place-related content from one or more data sources on the device
9 . The method as claimed in claim 1 further comprising obtaining additional place-related content from one or more data sources external to the device.
10 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions in code which when loaded into a memory and executed by a processor of a computing device cause the computing device to:
process a request for place-related content for a place, the request being received from one of a plurality of applications executing on the computing device; in response to identifying the place requested by the one of the plurality of applications executing on the computing device, obtain place-related content for the place for provision to one of the plurality of applications of the computing device that has requested the place, the place-related content being stored in a place database, the place-related content having been contributed to the place database by one or more of the plurality of applications on the computing device; and present the place-related content obtained on a display of the computing device in a consolidated view.
11 . The computer-readable medium as claimed in claim 10 wherein the code for presenting the place-related content comprises code for presenting one or more of: content currently relevant to a user, content predicted to be relevant to the user within a predetermined period of time, content recommended based on user profile, and content based on a user's social network feed.
12 . The computer-readable medium as claimed in claim 10 wherein the code for presenting the place-related content comprises code for presenting the content based on a privacy setting.
13 . The computer-readable medium as claimed in claim 10 comprising code for causing the device to display one or more of: an event related to the place, a contact related to the place, a task related to the place, a news related to the place, a weather alert related to the place, a promotion related to the place, and a social media feed related to the place.
14 . The computer-readable medium as claimed in claim 10 further comprising code for presenting on the display a plurality of actions that may be performed in relation to the place data presented.
15 . The computer-readable medium as claimed in claim 14 further comprising code for performing the plurality of actions, wherein the plurality of actions are selected from the group comprising: displaying a map of the place; displaying route details to the place; initiating a navigation application to navigate to the place; adding the place to a favourites repository; sharing the place data with other devices; and copying the place data.
16 . The computer-readable medium as claimed in claim 10 wherein the code for presenting the content in the consolidated view comprises code for: displaying at least one of a contact and an event related to the place, in response to receiving user-selection of the contact from the consolidated view, displaying additional information relating to the contact, and in response to receiving user-selection of the event from the consolidated view, displaying additional information relating to the event.
17 . The computer-readable medium as claimed in claim 10 further comprising code for obtaining additional place-related content from one or more data sources on the device
18 . The computer-readable medium as claimed in claim 10 further comprising code for obtaining additional place-related content from one or more data sources external to the device.
19 . A computing device comprising:
a memory operatively coupled to a processor for processing a request for place-related content for a place, the request being received from one of a plurality of applications executing on the computing device, for identifying the place requested by the one of the plurality of applications executing on the computing device and, in response to identifying the place, for obtaining place-related content for the place for provision to one of the plurality of applications of the computing device that has requested the place, the place-related content being stored in a place database, the place-related content having been contributed to the place database by one or more of the plurality of applications on the computing device; and wherein the processor, in response to receiving the place-related content for the place, causes a display to present the place-related content obtained on a display of the computing device in a consolidated view.
20 . The computing device as claimed in claim 19 wherein the processor is configured to cause the display to present one or more of: content currently relevant to a user, predictive content predicted to be relevant to the user within a predetermined period of time, content recommended based on user profile, and discoverable content based on a user's social network feed
21 . The computing device as claimed in claim 19 wherein the processor is configured to cause the display to present the content based on a privacy setting.
22 . The computing device as claimed in claim 19 wherein the place-specific view displays one or more of: an event related to the place, a contact related to the place, a task related to the place, a news related to the place, a weather alert related to the place, a promotion related to the place, and a social media feed related to the place.
23 . The computing device as claimed in claim 19 wherein the display presents a plurality of actions that may be performed in relation to the place data being presented.
24 . The computing device as claimed in claim 23 wherein the plurality of actions are selected from the group comprising: displaying a map of the place; displaying route details to the place; initiating a navigation application to navigate to the place; adding the place to a favourites repository; sharing the place data with other devices; and copying the place data.
