Abstract

A surface treatment machine comprising a chassis; a cutter member mounted to the chassis for milling a surface; and a smoother member mounted to the chassis for levelling raised edges of a milled surface, the smoother member positioned behind the cutter member relative to the direction of travel, wherein the smoother member comprises a movably supported impact element for impacting the raised edges of the milled surface.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A surface treatment machine comprising:
a chassis; a cutter member mounted to the chassis for milling a surface; and a smoother member mounted to the chassis for levelling raised edges of a milled surface, the smoother member positioned behind the cutter member relative to the direction of travel, wherein the smoother member comprises a movably supported impact element for impacting the raised edges of the milled surface.

2 . The surface treatment machine of claim 1 wherein the impact element is reciprocatable relative to the chassis and has a series of impact tools.

3 . The surface treatment machine of claim 2 wherein the impact element is reciprocatable transverse to the direction of travel.

4 . The surface treatment machine of claim 2 wherein the impact element is reciprocatable parallel to the direction of travel.

5 . The surface treatment machine of claim 1 wherein the impact element is a rotatable relative to the chassis and has a series of laterally extending impact tools.

6 . The surface treatment machine of claim 5 wherein the impact element is a chain.

7 . The surface treatment machine of claim 5 wherein the impact element is a disk.

8 . The surface treatment machine of claim 7 comprising at least three disks.

9 . The surface treatment machine of claim 8 wherein the disks are mutually laterally spaced in a staggered arrangement.

10 . The surface treatment machine of any one of the preceding claims wherein smoother member is free floatingly mounted.

11 . The surface treatment machine of any one of claims 1 - 9 wherein smoother member is provided with at least one surface engagement element.

12 . The surface treatment machine of any one of the preceding claims wherein smoother member is mounted to the chassis of the surface treatment machine.

13 . A method of manufacturing a surface treatment machine comprising the steps of:
installing a cutter member to a chassis for milling a surface; and installing a smoother member to the chassis for levelling raised edges of a milled surface, wherein the smoother member is positioned behind the cutter member relative to the direction of travel and comprises a movably supported impact element for impacting the raised edges of the milled surface.

14 . The method of claim 13 comprising the step of arranging the impact element to reciprocate relative to the chassis.

15 . The method of claim 13 comprising the step of arranging the impact element to rotate relative to the chassis.
