Abstract

The invention relates to a new type of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) which co-express at least one mesenchymal marker, preferably at least CD105 and CD34. Also provided are bone-forming cells having an analogous phenotype. The invention also provides the cells and cell populations, as well as further products comprising such and uses thereof in bone therapy.

         24 . An isolated mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) originated from bone marrow, wherein the isolated MSC cell expresses surface markers comprising CD105 and CD34. 
     
     
         25 . The MSC cells according to  claim 24 , wherein said MSC cells display both osteogenic properties and pro-angiogenic properties. 
     
     
         26 . The MSC according to  claim 24 , which are of human origin. 
     
     
         27 . A cell population comprising the MSC cells according to  claim 24 . 
     
     
         28 . A pharmaceutical composition comprising the MSC cells according to  claim 24 , and one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carrier/excipient. 
     
     
         29 . A process for preparing the pharmaceutical composition according to  claim 28 , comprising combining MSC cells with one or more pharmaceutically acceptable carrier/excipient. 
     
     
         30 . The isolated MSC cell of  claim 24 , wherein the isolated MSC cell expresses surface markers further comprising CD105, CD90, CD73 and CD34. 
     
     
         31 . The MSC cells according to  claim 30 , wherein said MSC cells display both osteogenic properties and pro-angiogenic properties.

         33 . A cell population comprising the MSC cells according to  claim 30 .

         36 . Isolated MSC cells obtainable by a method comprising:
 a) isolating MSC cells from a bone marrow sample of a subject;   b) optionally enriching and/or expanding the MSC cells of (a); and   c) enriching from the MSC cells of (a) or (b) a subset of cells expressing surface markers comprising CD105 and CD34.
