User interface

Abstract

An electronic device comprising: a display; a housing enclosing the display and defining an exterior surface region adjacent to the display, the exterior surface region having a plurality of surface zones indicated thereon, the surface zones being capable of being written on by a user to save a written marking thereon; a memory; and user input apparatus; the device having: a first mode in which the device performs a function in respect of a subject entity and in which in response to operation of the user input apparatus to indicate one of the zones the device stores the entity in the memory in association with that zone; and a second mode in which in response to selection of a zone by means of the user input apparatus the device performs a function in respect of an entity stored in association with the selected zone.

1 . An apparatus comprising:
 a processor; and   a memory including computer program code,   the computer program code configured to, when executed by the processor:
 receive a user defined size of at least one user configurable zone. 
 perform a first function associated with an entity; 
 store in the memory an association of the entity with the at least one user configurable zone in response to receiving an indication of the association; and 
 perform a second function with respect to the entity in response to selection of the at least one zone. 
   
     
     
         2 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the computer program code is configured to receive the user defined size through a configuration function of the apparatus. 
     
     
         3 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the computer program code is configured to receive the user defined size when receiving the indication of the association. 
     
     
         4 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the user defined size includes a starting and an end point of the user configurable zone. 
     
     
         5 . The apparatus of  claim 1 , wherein the user defined size includes a selection from among predefined zone sizes. 
     
     
         6 . A method comprising:
 receiving a user defined size of a user configurable zone of an electronic device.   performing a first function associated with an entity by the electronic device;   storing in a memory of the electronic device an association of the entity with the at least one user configurable zone in response to receiving an indication of the association; and   performing a second function with respect to the entity in response to selection of the at least one zone.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6 , comprising receiving the user defined size through a configuration function of the electronic device. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 6 , comprising receiving the user defined size when receiving the indication of the association. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 6 , wherein the user defined size includes a starting and an end point of the user configurable zone. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 6 , wherein the user defined size includes a selection from among predefined zone sizes.
