Systems and methods for updating the display of preferred media asset sources

Abstract

System and methods for improving interactive grid displays are presented. When the user equipment receives media asset information related to titles of media assets transmitted from media asset sources, an interactive grid is generated and displayed which contains the media asset information. When the user equipment detects a request from the user to update the time interval on the interactive grid display to a new time interval, only the display of media assets related to the preferred media asset sources may be updated to correspond to the new time interval. The display of media assets related to non-preferred media assets sources may not be updated. In some embodiments, the preferred media asset sources may be visually distinguished from non-preferred media asset sources. In some embodiments, the non-preferred media asset sources may be visually distinguished in response to the user input to update the displayed time interval.

         31 . A method for presenting media asset information, the method comprising:
 receiving, at a user equipment, media asset information including time intervals during which media assets are transmitted from a media asset source that is preferred by a user;   generating, at the user equipment, an interactive display comprising information related to media asset sources in a first geometric direction and information related to time intervals in a second geometric direction;   receiving, at the user equipment, a request from the user to change the time interval that is currently displayed in the interactive display to a new time interval; and   in response to the user request, updating the interactive display to identify that a media asset that is transmitted from the preferred media asset source during the new time interval corresponds to the new time interval, without modifying media asset information in the interactive display related to media asset sources that are not preferred by the user.   
     
     
         32 . The method of claim of  31 , wherein the interactive display visually distinguishes the preferred media asset source from the media asset sources that are not preferred by the user. 
     
     
         33 . The method of claim of  31 , further comprising:
 generating a display of a first plurality of media asset titles transmitted from the preferred media asset source, wherein each of the first plurality of media asset titles is aligned with the preferred media asset source in the first geometric direction and aligned with a respective corresponding time interval in the second geometric direction; and   generating a display of a second plurality of media asset titles transmitted from the media asset sources that are not preferred by the user, wherein each of the second plurality of media asset titles is aligned with a respective corresponding media asset source in the first geometric direction and aligned with a respective corresponding time interval in the second geometric direction.   
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 31 , further comprising:
 generating, for the interactive display, a graphic display of a first plurality of media asset titles, transmitted from the preferred media asset source, that is distinguished from a graphic display of a second plurality of media asset titles, transmitted from the media asset sources that are not preferred by the user; and   in response to the user request to change the currently displayed time interval, updating the interactive display to shift the graphic display of the first plurality of media asset titles along the second geometric direction without shifting the graphic display of the second plurality of media asset titles.   
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 31 , further comprising:
 removing, from the interactive display, a portion of a displayed plurality of media asset titles that are transmitted from the preferred media asset source; and   adding, to the interactive display, new media asset titles that are transmitted from the preferred media asset source.   
     
     
         36 . The method of claim of  31 , wherein the received media asset information further comprises at least one of: a description of a media asset, an image of a media asset, video of a media asset, and a media asset source information. 
     
     
         37 . The method of claim of  31 , wherein the media asset source that is preferred by the user and media asset sources that are not preferred by the user are broadcast channels. 
     
     
         38 . The method of  claim 31 , further comprising receiving a user input to select, using the interactive display, at least a plurality of media asset sources to be preferred media asset sources. 
     
     
         39 . The method of  claim 31 , wherein updating the interactive display to identify that the media asset that is transmitted from the preferred media asset source during the new time interval corresponds to the new time interval comprises:
 graphically shifting a display of media asset information related to the preferred media asset source in the first geometric direction.   
     
     
         40 . The method of  claim 31 , wherein updating the interactive display to identify that the media asset that is transmitted from the preferred media asset source during the new time interval corresponds to the new time interval comprises:
 graphically adding new media asset information to a display, in the interactive display, of media asset information related to the preferred media asset source; and   graphically removing, from the interactive display, a portion of the media asset information related to the preferred media asset source without modifying the media asset information in the interactive display related to media asset sources that are not preferred by the user.   
     
     
         41 . The method of  claim 31 , wherein the received media asset information comprises titles of media assets that are transmitted from the preferred media asset source. 
     
     
         42 . The method of  claim 31 , further comprising:
 generating a display, in response to the user request, that visually distinguishes the preferred media asset source from the media asset sources that are not preferred by the user.   
     
     
         43 . A system for presenting media asset information, the system comprising control circuitry configured to:
 receive, at a user equipment, media asset information including time intervals during which media assets are transmitted from a media asset source that is preferred by a user;   generate, at the user equipment, an interactive display comprising information related to media asset sources in a first geometric direction and information related to time intervals in a second geometric direction;   receive, at the user equipment, a request from the user to change the time interval that is currently displayed in the interactive display to a new time interval; and   in response to the user request, update the interactive display to identify that a media asset that is transmitted from the preferred media asset source during the new time interval corresponds to the new time interval, without modifying media asset information in the interactive display related to media asset sources that are not preferred by the user.   
     
     
         44 . The system of claim of  43 , wherein the interactive display visually distinguishes the preferred media asset source from the media asset sources that are not preferred by the user. 
     
     
         45 . The system of claim of  43 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
 generate a display of a first plurality of media asset titles transmitted from the preferred media asset source, wherein each of the first plurality of media asset titles is aligned with the preferred media asset source in the first geometric direction and aligned with a respective corresponding time interval in the second geometric direction; and   generate a display of a second plurality of media asset titles transmitted from the media asset sources that are not preferred by the user, wherein each of the second plurality of media asset titles is aligned with a respective corresponding media asset source in the first geometric direction and aligned with a respective corresponding time interval in the second geometric direction.   
     
     
         46 . The system of  claim 43 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
 generate, for the interactive display, a graphic display of a first plurality of media asset titles, transmitted from the preferred media asset source, that is distinguished from a graphic display of a second plurality of media asset titles, transmitted from the media asset sources that are not preferred by the user; and   in response to the user request to change the currently displayed time interval, update the interactive display to shift the graphic display of the first plurality of media asset titles along the second geometric direction without shifting the graphic display of the second plurality of media asset titles.   
     
     
         47 . The system of  claim 43 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
 remove, from the interactive display, a portion of a displayed plurality of media asset titles that are transmitted from the preferred media asset source; and   add, to the interactive display, new media asset titles that are transmitted from the preferred media asset source.   
     
     
         48 . The system of claim of  43 , wherein the received media asset information further comprises at least one of: a description of a media asset, an image of a media asset, video of a media asset, and a media asset source information. 
     
     
         49 . The system of claim of  43 , wherein the media asset source that is preferred by the user and media asset sources that are not preferred by the user are broadcast channels. 
     
     
         50 . The system of claim of  43 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to receive a user input to select, using the interactive display, at least a plurality of media asset sources to be preferred media asset sources. 
     
     
         51 . The system of claim of  43 , wherein the control circuitry configured to update the interactive display to identify that the media asset that is transmitted from the preferred media asset source during the new time interval corresponds to the new time interval comprises control circuitry configured to:
 graphically shift a display of media asset information related to the preferred media asset source in the first geometric direction.   
     
     
         52 . The system of claim of  43 , wherein the control circuitry configured to update the interactive display to identify that the media asset that is transmitted from the preferred media asset source during the new time interval corresponds to the new time interval comprises control circuitry configured to:
 graphically add new media asset information to a display, in the interactive display, of media asset information related to the preferred media asset source; and   graphically remove, from the interactive display, a portion of the media asset information related to the preferred media asset source without modifying the media asset information in the interactive display related to media asset sources that are not preferred by the user.   
     
     
         53 . The system of claim of  43 , wherein the received media asset information comprises titles of media assets that are transmitted from the preferred media asset source. 
     
     
         54 . The system of claim of  43 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
 generate a display, in response to the user request, that visually distinguishes the preferred media asset source from the media asset sources that are not preferred by the user.
