Abstract
A venue positioning method and system. The location of one or more hand held devices can be determined with respect to one or more VPS (Venue Positioning System) devices within a venue (e.g., a sports stadium, concert arena, etc.) based on wireless communication between the hand held device(s) and the VPS device(s). A service can then be wirelessly delivered to the hand held device(s) based on the determined location of the hand held device(s) with respect to the VPS device(s) within or proximate to the venue. In some embodiments, the VPS devices may be implemented as transponders.

1 . A venue positioning method, comprising:
determining a location of at least one hand held device among a plurality of hand held devices with respect to at least one VPS (Venue Positioning System) device among a plurality of VPS devices within a venue based on wireless communication between said at least one hand held device and said at least one VPS device; and wirelessly delivering a service to said at least one hand held device based on said determined location of said at least one hand held device with respect to said at least one VPS device within or proximate to said venue.
2 . The method of claim 1 further comprising detecting a presence of said at least one VPS device with respect to said at least one hand held device.
3 . The method of claim 1 further comprising transmitting data to said at least one hand held device in close proximity to said at least one VPS device.
4 . The method of claim 1 wherein said service is wireless delivered to said at least one hand held device through a wireless network.
5 . The method of claim 4 wherein said wireless network comprises at least one of the following: a WiFi Network and a cellular network.
6 . The method of claim 4 wherein said wireless network comprises a network equipped with Bluetooth communications capability.
7 . The method of claim 1 further comprising detecting said location of said at least one hand held device with respect to said at least one VPS device.
8 . The method of claim 1 wherein said at least one VPS device comprises a transponder.
9 . A venue positioning system, comprising:
a plurality of VPS (Venue Positioning System) devices within or proximate to a venue, wherein a location of at least one hand held device among a plurality of hand held devices is determined with respect to at least one VPS device among said plurality of VPS devices within or proximate to said venue based on wireless communication established between said at least one hand held device and said at least one VPS device based on a proximity of said at least one hand held device to said at least one VPS device; and a wireless network for wirelessly delivering a service to said at least one hand held device based on said determined location of said at least one hand held device with respect to its proximity to said at least one VPS device within or proximate to said venue.
10 . The system of claim 9 wherein a presence of said at least one VPS device is detected with respect to said at least one hand held device.
11 . The system of claim 9 wherein data is transmitted to said at least one hand held device in proximity to said at least one VPS device.
12 . The system of claim 9 wherein said wireless network comprises at least one of the following: a WiFi network and a cellular network.
13 . The system of claim 9 wherein said wireless network comprises a network equipped with Bluetooth communications capability.
14 . The system of claim 9 wherein said at least one VPS device comprises a transponder.
15 . A venue positioning system, comprising:
a processor; and a computer-usable medium embodying computer program code, said computer-usable medium capable of communicating with said processor, said computer program code comprising instructions executable by said processor and configured for:
determining a location of at least one hand held device among a plurality of hand held devices with respect to at least one VPS (Venue Positioning System) device among a plurality of VPS devices within a venue based on wireless communication between said at least one hand held device and said at least one VPS device; and
wirelessly delivering a service to said at least one hand held device based on said determined location of said at least one hand held device with respect to said at least one VPS device within or proximate to said venue.
16 . The system of claim 15 wherein said instructions are further configured for detecting a presence of said at least one VPS device with respect to said at least one hand held device.
17 . The system of claim 15 wherein said instructions are further configured for transmitting data to said at least one hand held device in close proximity to said at least one VPS device.
18 . The system of claim 15 wherein said service is wirelessly delivered to said at least one hand held device through a wireless network.
19 . The system of claim 18 wherein said wireless network comprises at least one of the following: a WiFi Network and a cellular network.
20 . The system of claim 18 wherein said wireless network comprises a network equipped with Bluetooth communications capability.
