Abstract

A communication device is described including a receiver, a determiner configured to determine, for a first data transmission via a first communication channel and a second data transmission via a second data communication channel, wherein the first data transmission and the second data transmission overlap in time, a first time period during which the receiver is to receive data transmitted in the first data transmission and a second time period during which the receiver is to receive data transmitted in the second data transmission based on information about the quality of data transmission via the first communication channel and based on information about the quality of data transmission via the second communication channel and a controller configured to control the receiver to receive data transmitted in the first data transmission during the first time period and to receive data transmitted in the second data transmission during the second time period.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A communication device comprising
 a receiver;   a determiner configured to determine, for a first data transmission via a first communication channel and a second data transmission via a second data communication channel, wherein the first data transmission and the second data transmission overlap in time, a first time period during which the receiver is to receive data transmitted in the first data transmission and a second time period during which the receiver is to receive data transmitted in the second data transmission based on information about the quality of data transmission via the first communication channel and based on information about the quality of data transmission via the second communication channel; and   a controller configured to control the receiver to receive data transmitted in the first data transmission during the first time period and to receive data transmitted in the second data transmission during the second time period.   
     
     
         2 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the determiner is configured to determine the first time period and the second time period such that the first time period is longer than the second time period if the quality of data transmission via the second communication channel is higher than the quality of data transmission via the first communication channel by a predetermined amount and to determine the first time period and the second time period such that the second time period is longer than the first time period if the quality of data transmission via the first communication channel is higher than the quality of data transmission via the second communication channel by a predetermined amount. 
     
     
         3 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the first data transmission starts before the second data transmission and wherein the determiner is configured to determine the first time period and the second time period such that the first time period precedes the second time period. 
     
     
         4 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the first time period and the second time period are contiguous. 
     
     
         5 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the communication device is a mobile communication device. 
     
     
         6 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first data transmission and the second data transmission is a transmission of control data. 
     
     
         7 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the communication device is a subscriber terminal of a first mobile communication network and a subscriber terminal of a second mobile communication network and the first data transmission is a data transmission by a base station of the first mobile communication network and the second data transmission is a data transmission by a base station of the second mobile communication network. 
     
     
         8 . The communication device of  claim 7 , wherein the first mobile communication network and the second mobile communication network are mobile communication networks using different or same radio access technologies. 
     
     
         9 . The communication device of  claim 7 , wherein the first mobile communication network and the second mobile communication network are mobile communication networks according to different or same communication standards. 
     
     
         10 . The communication device of  claim 7 , wherein the first data transmission is a transmission of data comprising at least one of paging data and system information of the first mobile communication network. 
     
     
         11 . The communication device of  claim 7 , wherein the first data transmission is a transmission of data comprising at least one of paging data and system information of the first mobile communication network. 
     
     
         12 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to control the receiver to receive data transmitted in the first data transmission during the first time period and to receive data transmitted in the second data transmission during the second time period when the communication device is in idle mode. 
     
     
         13 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the determiner is configured to determine the information about the quality of data transmission via the first communication channel and the information about the quality of data transmission via the second communication channel. 
     
     
         14 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the receiver is configured to provide the information about the quality of data transmission via the first communication channel and the information about the quality of data transmission via the second communication channel. 
     
     
         15 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the receiver is configured to provide the information about the quality of data transmission via the first communication channel based on a data transmission via the first communication channel preceding the first data transmission and to provide the information about the quality of data transmission via the second communication channel based on a data transmission preceding the second data transmission. 
     
     
         16 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the information about the quality of data transmission via the first communication channel is information about the strength of signals received via the first communication channel. 
     
     
         17 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the information about the quality of data transmission via the second communication channel is information about the strength of signals received via the second communication channel. 
     
     
         18 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the information about the quality of data transmission via the first communication channel is information about the signal to noise ratio of signals received via the first communication channel. 
     
     
         19 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the information about the quality of data transmission via the second communication channel is information about the signal to noise ratio of signals received via the second communication channel. 
     
     
         20 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the determiner is configured to determine the first time period and the second time period before the first data transmission and the second data transmission are started. 
     
     
         21 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the first time period is a number of radio frames and the second time period is a number of radio frames. 
     
     
         22 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the determiner is configured to determine the first time period and the second time period further based on at least one of priority information about the first data transmission and the second data transmission, timing information about the first data transmission and the second data transmission and redundancy information about the first data transmission and the second data transmission. 
     
     
         23 . The communication device of  claim 1 , wherein the determiner is configured to determine the first time period and the second time period based on a maximization of the likelihood that at least one of the data transmitted in the first data transmission and the data transmitted in the second data transmission can be completely received taking into account redundancy of the first data transmission and of the second data transmission. 
     
     
         24 . A method for controlling a receiver comprising
 determining, for a first data transmission via a first communication channel and a second data transmission via a second data communication channel, wherein the first data transmission and the second data transmission overlap in time, a first time period during which the receiver is to receive data transmitted in the first data transmission and a second time period during which the receiver is to receive data transmitted in the second data transmission based on information about the quality of data transmission via the first communication channel and based on information about the quality of data transmission via the second communication channel; and   controlling a receiver to receive data transmitted in the first data transmission during the first time period and to receive data transmitted in the second data transmission during the second time period.   
     
     
         25 . The method of  claim 24 , wherein determining the first time period and the second time period comprises determining the first time period and the second time period based on a maximization of the likelihood that at least one of the data transmitted in the first data transmission and the data transmitted in the second data transmission can be completely received taking into account redundancy of the first data transmission and of the second data transmission.
